Seedling issues (pics)

Hey all,

My strongest little seedling (two weeks today) is trying to tell me something. Ok, so the new growth looks fine. The first true leaves, however, are much lighter in color and have started developing small brown spots. Does this sound like a possible nitrogen deficiency?

I had some issues with over-watering, but other than a mist here and there, I haven't watered in going on four days. My soil is a mix of MG Seed Started and Kellogg's PP. Maybe a little hot?

No nitrogen def there, it's probably the aftermath of our overwatering.
New leaves are healthy as. Number 1 killer of seedlings and babies is water, followed by fungal rot, again watering too much. Once they get into veg they are hard to kill. I use a dropper and mist for my babies. Don't worry iv5e murdered quite a few lol.

Thanks. Yeah, I've had hell with finding a sweet spot when it comes to watering. To make matters worse, their is really no clear consensus on the best way to go about it. Some will tell you to water until runoff while others insist that a just a splash will suffice. Would you recommend that I hold off for a while? Maybe just use a spray bottle for the time being?

Don't water seedling till runoff, I water till runoff every 3 feeds to get rid of built up salts but that in heavy vegetation. You are better off watering when the baby looks like she needs water (a little droopy looking) some will argue the point but it won't hurt it. Just mist the leaves twice a day till the soil dries out a bit.

Whats the temp of the soil? They're babies and babies like to be nice and warm. I have the most trouble when theyre little like that due to temps being chilly. My .02.

Do you have a lights off period or are you running 24/0? Temps in the dark contribute to damping too.

Keep your babies warm very important to seedling growth, rh should be above 60%, feed only water with turkey baster or dropper. Not to worry if no runoff no salt buildup anyway too young.

I'm not sure on the soil temp. I'm assuming it's roughly the same as the temperature of my cab. Yeah, I can't wait until the seedling stage is over. It's more difficult that I anticipated.

Thanks for all the pointers, y'all. I guess I need to break out the dropper (might have a turkey baster too). I guess I having a hard time understanding why such a small amount of water is required. It seems like the soil wouldn't become adequately moist. Wouldn't a droppers worth merely moisten the top? How often do you guys water when you're using a dropper/baster? Thanks!

Put on your common sense hat on for a moment, when you go to Mc Donalds they have the happy meals right? Why? Because children have smaller stomachs. My Granddaughter eats half a cheeseburger, maybe a couple of fries and 2sips of soda, what I'm saying is seedlings only need moisture at this tender age you just need a small amount of water. Their establishing its root system, so i found it kinda funny when one poster said feed water until you see runoff so it can wash out the salts...what salt its too damn young for salt buildup.

You can either use a sprayer and just spray the leaves or the soil

I agree that it looks like over-watering. But I also think that Miracle-Gro seed starting mix is good for one thing; sitting on the store shelf and never being purchased or used by anyone growing cannabis, ever. It's absolute garbage, in my opinion.

I bought a bunch of Medicine Man seeds from Mr. Nice. The first batch I grew I started in Miracle-Gro seed starter. They all did the same thing yours are doing. They did nothing but suffer the entire time they were in that shit. The second batch I grew, from the same pack of seeds, I started in Pro-Mix seed starter. They thrived from day one without any sign of problems. They were the healthiest plants I've ever grown. Everything was the same, except for the medium.

So I'm sure many will disagree with me, but this is the conclusion I've come to. I would rather take a shit in a solo cup and plant my seeds in it than use Miracle-Gro seed starter, or any Miracle-Gro product. It is absolute shit. I now use Pro-Mix seed starter for when they're brand new, and then switch to Pro-Mix HP for the rest of their lives. The difference has been remarkable.

I know that MG isn't ideal for cannabis growing, but I bought the Seed Starter for, well, filler. It's a way to cut the Kellogg's PP, which can be a little hot for seedlings.

I don't use or support them buy mg is just fine for cannabis. They don't sell it by the pallet for no reason.

Its over watered. That's a problem on its own but with mg it is worse because of the time release nutes. With mg keep it on the dry side.

Quit watering so much.

I hear you. The Seed Starter is supposed to contain very little plant food. I've noticed that just about every MG product is "enhanced" with their fertilized. In fact, I saw a bag of MG peat moss at Home Depot today and it was "enhanced" as well. Perlite is the same way. I've been told that the amount added is negligible. But hey, who knows? I was definitely over-watering, though. Started a few more beans and they're praying to the light at the moment. I swear I'll get this right before long. :bigjoint:

A little dryness won't hurt. It encourages root growth for search of water.
