window ac in winter.

Hey. I have been having trouble with my ac not turning on when it's under 35 degrees.

the outer walls of the house aren't insulated very well so the heat from the room creates pretty bad condensation and the humidity gets around 85% if I'm not home for a while with mid 80 temps if I only turn one light on, two gets to 90 quick.

I am days away from flipping them to flower so i need the AC to be running to lower the temps and act as a dehumidifier. The outside temp has been 20s for about a week then two days of 40s and below 30s for the next weeks forecast.

Here is my question. The room shares a closet with a spare room that also shares heat. Could I build a wall or cut out the door and have the AC vent out into the closet and into the spare room? I already have the heat off and if the exhaust heats the room too much I could open a window. is there any danger or fumes that could be hazardous? .

Money is kind of tight right now so an in room ac or dehumidifier is not an option.

do what i do. Get an exhaust fan and suck air into the room from the garage

I would have to cut holes in walls and ducting would be very inefficient because It would have to have many angles. The house is a rental so I can't really do much and my garage isn't attached.

You can definitely vent into another room but that room is close so it's eventually gonna feed back in. If it's a big enough room and it's sealed it might hold off enough for 12 hours

The room is sealed pretty good and the room it would be vented into is pretty cool and is only heated if the door is open. I could open the window in that room every so often.

In college I ripped the thermostat out of the window banger and had moved it. That would force the AC to kick on more... Sure wasn't good for the unit though. It did its duty and was scrapped later.

anyone have any suggestions on how to cheaply set it up in a narrow closet doorway?

I have some insulation to seal it once it's in but having trouble coming up with a quiet temporary way that also won't fall.

Buy a 4'x8' 2 inch thick piece of foam board insulation. Cut it to size, install AC into board.

I use a Stanley blower fan with ducting hooked up to it to bring in cool air from the window in the winter. The same window that I use for an ac in the summer.

You could easily make your own exhaust ducting encasing the unit and move the ac out the window and into a room, then fab exhaust ductwork out the back of the unit and blow out the window. I've seen many mods like this to window shakers with just cardboard and hvac flex tape.

I think it would probably work. it would heat the 2nd room up substantially though. The air that comes out is really quite hot from the motor. I wonder what would happen if you stuck an old fridge in the closet door with the fridge and freezer doors open to the grow room. Not that much heat comes off a fridge and the frost free freezer condenser should dehumidify. Just have to turn off the heater that evaporates the runoff and put a container there instead.

Go buy a ton of space blankets and tape them all over the walls.

I've got a 10k btu window banger that I did this with last year. It worked! Kept two gavita DEs cool enough to flower through the end of summer... It looked like an octopus though, lots of ducting to make sure the air went where I wanted it to, lol
