Don't know what make it is. It's just a digital meter with TDS-3 on it.

Also I've just checked water company data and it says my areas water is 'very hard'. Should that concern me? If so how can I adjust it accordingly without resorting to buying Osmosis equipment.
Tds-3 uses the Hanna conversion. So it's the .5 scale.

That is to high of and ec. I have never heard of cannabis taking over 3.0ec.

Are your plants healthy or what?

Do you have a lot of leaves or do they die?

If you are feeding @ 1700 and 400 is tap. that means you have 1300ppm of nutes, which is fine. High but fine. That tap is high tho. I would use it. Or cut tap with bottled/RO water.

I feed @ 2.0ec-2.4ec during peak flowering depending on strain.

It's called pushing your plants limits and results in really nice plants.

Op's problem is that he is drying to fast or not letting the bud ripen.

Hay, cut grass smell only comes from quick dry or immature bud.
So even at a .7 conversion factor you are only running1500 ppm max.

So at 1700 ppm at a .5 that would be an EC of 3.4
I have no trouble with what you're saying. He stated 1700 ppm so the conversion factor is in the ec conversion of your Pen. If your pen uses .5 then your only at 1200 ppm.
Without knowing what's the make up of his 400 ppm tap I can see him running into trouble pushing that high a EC .

Agreed. That why I asked him about the health of the plants.

I wouldn't think nutes would affect the aroma.

If by musty he means cut grass / hay smell then I'm going to say it's either he's picking the plant prematurely or drying to fast.

Thanks for comments. didn't know 1700 was to high. It basically takes into account the 400ppm to start with on tap water which I've been knocking off the final ppm! RH in room is normally about 55RH temp about 20 celcius Average time till stems snap is 3 days. So question. Does anyone else use canna? If so what ppm do you use and should I deduct the 400ppm the tap water when testing the water?
stem snaps in 3 days, might want to slow that down abit

If you "think" the water(400ppm) is causing the problem, vase your cuts for 24 hours after the chop. Each mature snip will take up an average .5 litres of RO water during this 24 hour roots off flush.

Also keep the ph pen calibrated. I calibrated mine and it was out by 0.7.
Yeah mine might well be out also, so will check this for sure.

McBride, not sure what your on about. You saying put the plant in water after cutting?

Like you would put a flower in water to keep it fresh after it's cut. The plant will continue to suck up water at the cut part of the stem. I do this for 24 hours after the chop so the bud is drying with purified water inside them instead of res water. I prune all the large fans at the start of this process.

This way I can do a final flush without messing with the budding room res etc.

Don't confuse water washing with the final flush.
