Water in Flint and other general problems in our political environ

I beg to differ on your explanation that electrolysis does not cause calcium buildup, it most certainly does. Calcium buildup is caused by minirals in the water, especially hard water, and further exacerbated if ANY voltage is present (a short/arc ) in LWCO, temp sensor, heat timer, even low voltage stat...milliamp included.

I've installed hundreds of boilers and hot water tanks because dielectric fittings were not used, most plmbers wont use it because of expense, you said you are a home inspector how many retrofits have you inspected? So saying that dielectric fittings are required when working on 2 different metals, answer me this, how many people even KNOW about dielectric fittings? Let alone use it. I've taken apart thousands of pipe...galvanized steel, copper, black pipe, schedule 40&80... and they all display the same thing heavy buildup of calcium (miniral deposit).

The reason you have buildup on the outside is sweat or a tiny leak caused by electrolosys so the use of a dielectric fitting is a must for a job done right. I agree the reason most HWT have a 5-7 year lifespan is because you have fly by night wanna be plumbers installing HWT, or just everyday folks who own a home and in need to replace a tank, you will never see a master plumber install a tank without that fitting. I did my own tank with that fitting 15 years ago, as long as you do a PM (blow down the tank and boiler you're golden).

I also never said calcium causes blisters, I did say it could be anthing.
I'm not a Dr. So I don't know.

I use "Stay brite" on all my fittings none of that 50-50 or 60-40 crap. Check out the holding strength of all 3.

And heat pumps are all over the north east I have a split system unit what do you have? Incramental, wall or transom? It does make a difference on BTU/hour output.

I also have hard water (well water) but I put in a water softener (water boss). It goes through 2 different units sand filter and then finally a softener salt pellets from home depot, lowes.

I'm installing a water chiller with hot gas recovery. Where do I put the dielectric fittings in the system?

Why was flint under the direction of an emergency manager? Would it have anything to do with the city budget?
The major factor is that business has severely sagged in Flint. The moving of most of GM's operations there, lead to a domino effect of Business and job loss. This lead to loss of tax revenue that actually let the city operate! Mismanagement was a VERY small contributing factor.

You actually have to live here [MI] to understand our problems. Sadly this applies to other "rust belt" city's and towns in states relying on steel, chemical and auto related industries....

No crappy water here (or there) I moved to another state, but I worked out of New York City which has a ph level of 6.8-7.2. It is in the top 5 best water levels for a large city in the world.

I've taken apart 10 year old pipe that was done with dielectric and it was 90-95% clear. Southwest and northeast are worlds apart. With different problems but water is not one of them up here.

I'll stick to my professional findings here in the northeast and you can stick with yours down in the southwest.

The water is very, very clean here in Colorado's Front Range; pH 7.1, EC. 052.

And we offer tax cuts to the same to move to China.:wall:

I built a similar system for my bathroom (it's all tile gets cold in winter) it circulates hot water in plastic tubing called PEX underneath my tile flooring.

The chiller is actually a heat exchanger in the winter with a hot water circulating pump connected to a low voltage stat and chiller/heat exchanger. Are you going to use it all year round? You could you know.
In a chiller/heat exchanger you have 2 circuits (refrigerant and water) just connect the pumps electrical system to a relay and stat (make sure the stat is for a heat pump...with electric heat) to the RH power and O which is the reversing valve. Heat pumps are nothing more than air conditioner with a reversing valve. Good luck!

Mine is not a heat pump; and yes of course I plan to use it for both heating and cooling year round as temperatures require.

The refrigerant circuit never leaves the unit; it's not a minisplit. Only cold and hot water, on separate circuits. It will heat my home while simultaneously cooling my op and anthing else I want.

You should see what I plan to do with it!

Very interesting !! Got a link to one? I'd like to see the data...

AND THERE IT FUCKING IS!!!

Corporations and those who own and run them worship money!
Those elected worship donations from them!

They wash each others hands while pissing on the public!
And they provide desired goods and services at competitive prices while providing millions of workers with jobs.

Why do you hate the very people that make your life so cool?

The usual suspect whenever there's a Puke in charge...Robin Hood in reverse cause, you know, poor folks just have too much so the rich get tax breaks.

You think Snyder cares about Democratic strongholds, he knows they didn't vote for him, so why care. He also has an emergency manager in Detroit.

They don't make my life "cool"!

They don't pay fair wages and I cite my long term friends, working at various jobs watching their pay be worth less, buy less and all the while the company they work for has TRIPLED in profit over as short as 4 years with NO increase in wages and reductions in benefit's all the while being told that the company can't afford to pay them more OR even make any cost of living increase!
I used to shoot trap with a guy who works at a company that paid him 16 dollars an hr 11 years ago. He now makes near 19.
11 years ago and up till about 5 ago he had "toy's" like a small motorhome, motorcycle's, quads and several expensive trap guns.
He would shoot at the state meets and we would practice together on week ends otherwise.

His toy's are gone. No Bikes, quads. his Motorhome sits and only goes out on short vacations. he sold off all but one gun and only shoots the State and fall team shoots. Our team miss's him greatly! The way the economy is - he can't afford to do it any more!
All the while corporations haven't lost shit! Profits are increasing and the bottom line is more, more, more. Those who actually produce this product get excuse's and are required to work longer hrs for comparatively less over all then before. Largely due to no willingness by the "corporation" to include the worker in equal environmental economic fluctuations!

Why are decision makers more important then those who actually DO the work of producing the product?

It's just like farming! The Farmer who does all the work and absorbs huge cost to do so. Gets the LEAST (if any) amount of "profit" from the end sale of the product? The system is broken! Greed has taken over!

Bernie Sanders in '16, because so much needs fixed after the Republican party of greed trashed our country.

Why unions, for all their faults, are necessary for the economic health of our country. We need to hem up the greed heads.

Dielectric unions/fittings (the way I do it) I put a fitting on the cold in and hot out. Get 2 3/4"x 3" long galvanixed steel nipples, then the dielectric fittings, another short nipple, then globe valves (dont use gate valves they suck) people buy them cause they're inexpensive

Here is a quick sketch of what I speak of.

BTW You're not talking about getting a wall mounted tankless heater are you? The ones that give you instant heat? You did say chiller so I assume you know what is what. Are you going to pipe this in yourself? If not then don't get talked out of putting these valves in otherwise the two metals will turn on you in less than 5 years. Are you on well water? If so the closer to 7 on the ph scale the longer the life.

I'm scared of city water. It could happen to any one of us.

I'm fixing to drill a well. The tap water here kills plants so I know it can't be good to drink. Hell it burns your skin when you shower.

I just took a peek at your link and that is a very, very nice system its whats called in the business a self contain chiller. When you said chiller I had my doubts but it has a copeland compressor in it thats a top of the line compressor, anything with Techumson in it run away fast those are pos. Also are you going 120 volts or 220? Keep in mind 220 is cheaper to run.

The diagram I sent was for a hot water tank, just apply it to the chiller the same way.

I checked out thst link and the first thing I did was check out the specs and just like I said earlier it would require a circulating pump, well it has one built in.

I like it but I cant use it I already have a functioning system anyhow good luck.

I went 300 feet with mine but watch out for hard water you should get a perc test done before drilling.
