you don't. i have used mg for years. i do use it for cannabis, on soil plants in veg. there are nutes especially formulated for cannabis (gh, an...) that produce better results, and greater yeilds, but mg is like nutes for dummies. i have never seen a chem burn from water soluble mg, if used according to label instructions. i've not had harsh smoke from using it in flower. i have, however, harvested plants early with no flush, meaning a greater chlorophy level, which is what caused the taste change and acrid smoke.

mg is good stuff; if it weren't, they wouldn't be making a billion+ a year in sales. think about it.

I agree, I just started using their "all purpose" plant food, its like a 30-10-20, and its wroing great, only way you burn it, is when you dont follow directions. Also you have to realize that you have to use half strength of almost all nutes, that arent specialzed for cannabis. So start with a diluted strength and you wont get burned. As for the soil, I dont like preferted soil, I have a bag however, and may try to use it. Feeds up to 3 months, so make sure you dont harvest before then. Otherwise, end up with nutes for smoke. My outdoor grow is going to take about 5 months total, so I should be fine.

Because I (I can't speak for others) listen to what people have to say about their growing experience with Miracle Grow on this side of the pond and I've yet to find onle single person who knows what they're doing who actually uses it and gets good results with it. That seems to me, to be a pretty good reason for giving Miracle Grow a pretty wide berth and because of that I have no intention of wasting my time with it.

I've done a fair amount of research on soils in my time, and from what I've read about Miracle Grow from people who do know what they're talking about has put me off it bigtime. Firstly, Scots the people who make it have an appaling environmental record and try and sell their organic based soil 'Natures Answer' as organic when it clearly contains chemical based fertilisers. Secondly, standard Miracle Grow has a NPK ratio that is just not suited to growing Cannabis in. 15-30-15 is far too high for producing clean hot burning buds and the high P content means that the buds will contain an excess of P which makes the dried buds hard to burn and very carciogenic.

I would listen to babygro said. From what I have seen, Babygro reminds me of the older guru of that indian tribe where he is the man that everybody goes to for advice. I have learned quite a bit from babygro's writitings. For that I am giving baby good feedback.

Im using miracle grow at the moment and I couldn't be more satisfied, so far, with the way my plant is growing.

No problems yet, but if they do arise, I'll let you know.

on my next grow i think im going to use my own mixture of everything i need so i have a really good balance. thank you babygro for you great info my first grow is going to just have to be down with mg :/ next grow i also have some blueberry seeds that have a very nice backround

i wont take the time to multi quote. babygro, i do not wish to get involved in this type of contest. as a friend of mine says, "winning an argument on the internet is like winning the special olypics; even if you win, you are still a retard."

as you said, you cannot find anyone who knows what they are doing who uses mg, and that most of the ratios are not right for cannabis. this is true, sort of. as i have said here or elsewhere, there are nutes that are better, as they are blended and tested exclusively on mmj, such as gh and an. these nutes work much better, and produce much better results. i use gh. but, i also use mg in soil. yes, i have found something that works for me, and no, it may not be best for all, but people can make their own judgements on that one. most niw growers start with miracle grow. they have to use something until they learn what they realy need to grow proffesionally, and have the time to practice until they make the switch. if you want a superb product and yeild, you go with the expensive fancy stuff. if you want to learn, well, you try stuff, and learn...

now, i did not mention mg soil, and i should have. mg soil has a ph of 8-8.5 out of the bag, and takes quite a bit of work to get it to level out. i know someone who has great success, because his water ph is low. they balance out. i don't recomend any type of mg soil. i've tried it, i don't like it. that is my oppinion on that product.

now, as far as the ratios. mg has several different formulas. you can find almost any ratio if you look for it. ie, african violet formula works well for flower.

as far as the arrogance statement: perhaps i was brash, but you have no idea how many times people have started a pissing contest with me over this exact same topic. hell, look at this one!

i don't want to fight, i don't want any hard feelings. these are my oppinions, and i choose to exercise my right to post them. i'm sorry if you are offended, i mean only to inform. i also mean to open the minds of people who are so one sided they would never even think about trying the most widely distributed fertilizer in the world. alway be willing to find out for your self. that's the only way you know for sure.

I too use mg and would not say that because of all the bad rap.

So far I like it. To me if it's not organic is chemicial. My futher plans are organic. Then there will be no more mg.

Baby Gro is the great debater of the gray area and I don't think he means anything bad by it. That is just his way. He or she is very smart and brings good things to rollitup. Baby Gro has my utmost respect and I don't reject any thing he says. I just think I don't understand that.

Soil; the dutch say it's the best. So I go to the woods and look for the kind of vegatative growth I want. That soil will be good then put it in a #3 tub and cook it out side untill all the bugs are dead. Mix that with clean sand until it drains good. Looking at plants that grow in the wild will tell what kind of water and soil is in that area.

Then I want to try those soiless mixes I hear about. To me it's all about learning and growing.

I'll aid in settling this argument. I've got a bag of mg that I've been debating about using. I'll get a bag of another soil you guys recommend. It'll have to be available through wal-mart or lowes or another common distributor. I'm going to start 18 plants. Half mg, half another brand. I'll flower and hopefully have at least 8 females (max size of my grow). I'll try for half mg, half other. I'll treat each plant the same, same amount water, nutes, etc. and report the final yield of each plant. Sound interesting?

Yep Thats a very good idea only mg soil is high in ph. I thought we were talking nutes. I use mg nutes. Get them at the dg store very cheap.

Go back and look at kp last post. It tells about the high ph.

mg got it's start in nutes not soil. To me they have good nutes. You'll need to fix their soil if your going to use it.

If the soil don't come from nature your using some body's mix. Hell I mix my own from mother earth. It's free and better you just have to get rid of the water and the bugs before you bring into the house.

Go for a nice walk in the woods. Look for a spring. If that spring has tons of thick short growth. Then look for flowers with big blooms and vivid colors. Then look for tales of wild life. Jack pot. Than take only the top soil.

Get rid of the water and bugs mix with clean garden sand. Bingo grow your ass off. If you don't see a big difference I'll go away.

I only have to take about 40 steps from my back yard and there's a creek. Maybe I should split this up into three categories? MG, other mix, and creek bed soil. Of course I'd address the ph issue in the mg soil, as with anything else. This could get complicated, but I'm willing to potentially sacrifice part of my crop for the betterment of stoner-kind.

i would like to post a note here too; i think the defense shown by babygro is great! if you believe in something, you should stick to your beliefs, no matter what. i do! i don't mind debates; i just don't like arguments. causes more hurt than help, and usually results in long term animosity. i do not want that; i like this site, and would like to stay here. but know this; it is very hard to offend me... i know i have my moods, and don't always present myself in a "freindly" manner, but take it with a grain of salt. i'm back on anti-dep's, and they realy mess with me sometimes.

babygro is right in that there are better nutes; i mentioned two brands. there are others. but, you can get decent results from mg. i'll try to post a couple of pix...

I have to second that. I am in my 6th grow using Miracle Gro soilless potting mix. Most of the problems I have had are releated to fertilizing. I used organic nutes only at or below recommended dosage and have burned plants, caused overdoses and ph changes. Without the chemical fertilizers, the mix is awesome. But I have gotten wise by beating my head against the grow.
I'm onto making my own mix after my last bag.

whatever you do, don't use moisture control. it totally killed one of my plants and "mutated" the other one. and by mutated i mean really weird vein patterns.
