I think you guys are getting too technical. And if you guys are scared to start the sprouts under your leds just take pictures under the comp lights and cheat by starting them under floros, if ya cant hack it

I think im going to run some liberty haze by barneys farm. I hope it turns into a giant penis looking thing. I think im only going to sprout one seed. Is that totally not safe?

besides I asked why the rule ? not how to make it work. I can always make it work, but it its too much work to fit into my grow space, its not fun anymore.

I had no issues starting my seedlings under a pair of 75w CXB3590's last round. Just gotta raise the light a bit.I think you guys are getting too technical. I have 4000k cobs this round though rather than 3500k.... Wonder if I should pop a few photo reds into the mix, or a 2700k decor vero 18.... Choices.

I dont get the rule either. Its my first cup cup. It may not even be a rule. I dont think ive read them really. All i know is i have a seed, a cup, and a dream. A dream to kick everyone's ass.

You can absolutely start seeds under a 200w led, people start them under 1000hps all the time, it's not a waste either. Light won't kill a seedling, heat will so if you are running hot just raise the light up or increase your air flow.
I have a seedling that's under 220ish watts of led right this second and it's just as happy as the ones under 55w. I'm doing a trial run to see if a seedling can tolerate the 1400+ ppms from my reservoir or if I will need to hand feed it for a while before auto feeding. So far so good.

I dunno where you get that a seedling can't survive under 200 watts led. Ive started seedlings under more thana 200 watts of led. Its not light that will kill them its heat and potential to bleach them. Its fairly easy to fix by just raising the lights height, shouldnt be that close to plants to start seedling anyway. Or dimm them if able.
It's a rule because there is no vegging allowed, meaning so you can use a blue spectrum veg light and switch it under a more suitable flowering red spectrum. You need to do it under one, usually being flowering light since its 12/12 from seed.
Its also a rule so that someone cant use say a 300 watt hid and then switch over to 600 or 1000 watt hps. To keep playing field as level as possible by everyone having to use whatever lights they start with all the way through, thats what makes up part of the challenge. Without leveling playing completely by forcing everyone use same exact light/brand/watts etc. Which would be extremely hard to do not to mention no one would compete if they had to go out buy lights specially for this comp.
Sure there are other reasons as well, maybe frozen will chime in as well. Its always been a rule.

I have some dinafem cheese I was thinking about running. More than a few haze crosses but I'd like to keep height and flowering time shorter if possible... I have a couple packs from members here but I'd like to give those a true chance in the garden, no party cup fun for those little ones. I have critical kush or cheese that I think I'll run. I also have blue fire x diamond og that looks interesting, but that might be cross that I want to give a "real chance".
This comp I will grow under HID, unlike the 6th comp in which I did the vertical trash can with 330w of mixed spectrum fluoros. I have 2x Gavita 6/750 de, 1000w of HPS in a parabolic, or 2x 315w CMH in adjustawings in a 4x4. Which light do you think the seedlings will like the best?
BTW, I absolutely plan on finishing this comp out this time!

I forgot I have Lavender beans, I'll probably pop 2 lavs and 3 gsc. I've never run the lavs though so idk what to expect.

Maybe maybe not. I knocked one of my girls over twice last comp. she pulled through and she didn't make the final cut but it could have went the other way.

Im just gonna guess and say i dont think 1400 ppm for a seedling is such a good idea. Maybe some handwatering might be better at first. But if thats what your gonna be running in the cup cup im ok with that

ive already been testing my set up out for tipability. Its not looking very safe. Think i might try and mount it to something somehow in the next little while so i dont smash my riu cup cup winning plant. 
you picked what your going with yet or is going to be what looks the best outta the five at the deadline?
