Can I clone from a topping?

Hi. I'm on my third grow and was planning on topping it. My other grows were a photo period that I just lst'd to keep low, and some autos that the prevailing wisdom says LST only. As I thought id have a go at topping this time I was wondering if I am likely to be successful if I use the topping clipping as a clone?

Just how much do you figure you will take topping this? Yes it will clone.

I don't know, im a topping virgin if I wait until there 5 nodes and I top at node 3 that should give me a reasonable sized clipping I'd have thought

Myself? I top after the 3rd and as quickly as possible. Then clone the lower branches. You are wasting plant energy doing it the way you want to but it will work.

Yea I like to get 5 nodes too, but then I only take the growth tip leaving the "hairs" on either side to turn into 2 branches. I then pluck the lowest 2 nodes either immediately or later for clones and use the 3 & 4 nodes to mainline ( meaning turn those 4 branches to 8, then the 8 to 16, etc)

Yes I do. It makes the main stem much larger and able to support more bud.
