why not set the bar high? Im talking idealism here. if you work 40hrs a week, and sleep 8 a day, you work 1/3 of your waking life. 1/3 of your awake hours to slave labor (a little less that 1/4 of your total time on this earth including sleep time- 168/40=4.2, or 40/160 fraction 1/4). Fuck that.
I cut my hours at work to 16, the union minimum. If the union wasnt such a bitch id still have benefits at 16 hrs too. Although I probably spend 20 hrs a week doing grow stuff, still hand water, not to mention harvest time....

16 × 4 = 64 hours a month of labor.

1000 dollars ÷ 64 work hours = 15.4 dollars an hour wage.

I pay roughly $6,600 a month in payments for my mortgages. Granted I get roughly $5,000 a month in rental income.. but still. Last time I paid only $700 a month in rent or mortgage was in 1998. lol.

Depends where you live. 700 a month gets you a roof over your head in an apartment. Shitty apartment. Looking at 800+ if you want quality.

Housing market crashed hard where I am. We got a mortgage on a short sale house in 2012. Houses in the area go for 100k and we got in at 70k. So our mortgage payment is 620 dollars. Much nicer and cheaper than an apartment around here.

My parent's house was at 190k when the market crashed. now its only worth 120-130k.

Still ridiculous that he thinks 8-16 hours a week should pay for shelter and food. Unless he was leaving out food stamps. Only single mothers get housing assistance where I am.

Still wouldn't be enough. Need to consider utilities, gas, car insurance, clothing and so on.

An even playing field makes for a far more prosperous nation- for everyone. I think the wealthy class in this country can and should look at this as priming the pump of their own long term economic success and therefore security, by protecting the buying power of their aggregate customer base.

After all, how long are they going to survive if no one has the money to buy their goods and services? That's what an economic depression looks like, and we've been living through the twenty first century version of exactly that for a decade now.

The saddest part is that if they recognized the importance of a strong consumer base to their own bottom line they would never have tolerated the system as it is today.

This has come about completely due to the shortsighted self interest of those buying access to power at the expense and even detriment of society at large, aka 'tragedy of the Commons'.

We were very lucky to snatched up a shortsale. We had a nice realtor who got us into a nice neighborhood. Good schools and strict city codes on appearance of your property.

We should be able to live comfortably here. We bought what we would be able to afford and would give us room to save money as my husband earns more.

I am in favor of a flat sales tax. No reductions to business or the wealthy. No more having to prove to the government what you make and what you spend.
