Man, this strain I have is going so weird haha. One of her side side branches is going trippy like the other trippy plant. Weird..

Getting a ph tester tmoro, one plant is bolloxed. Should pull through tho, im not stuck for time or anything so ill nurse her back to good health soon. Some new pots, soil and some of that fancy ph lark and they will be set eh

Ah i was using tap water and got a bucket of compost of a friend, dont know what it is, when I repot them ill use some good stuff with some perlite. I always use it but i have none at the moment, soil takes a good few days to dry out atm. Im pritty sure the problems are ph related. Using rain water now. Will sort is self out soon and when i get my tester I can correct everything.

Whats the best ph for soil? Im reading a few differnt things but im thinking somewhere around 6. Low 6's. And slightly lower in hydro.

i use Shamrock potting compost petruska. everything ive grown in it grows like fcuk.. especially my MJ... and 150litres for 10€ wont break the bank. hahahhaa

A lot of soils found in Woodies or B&Q or whatever have a high peat content. So a higher PH and poor drainage

Yes it is best to avoid compost soil for regular plants, most are too acidic and chemical fertilized. They also have water retainer added which does not suit our plants at all.

Hi @bud. Been a while. Just wondering why you you dont like water retainer in compost? I usually go with sand/homemade compost diluted with store compost(store compost less than third in mix). Is this a bad isea? Also , tend to use the store bought fine compost for seedlings? Again, a bad idea?

He's making the point that the medium should be light & airy as apposed to thick with soil or a premix compost.
Very few of those composts actually have, what these plants need & can do more harm than good.
Other guys would mix organic nutes into layered soil, so the pot as everything the plant will need as the roots grow & reach new nutes.
Like, I use clone cubes or Rockwool for my clones in a clone DWC pod.
But, as always, different strokes for different folks.

I grow in soil, as apposed to hydro for taste in my opinion.
I used regular pots up to about 2013, then switched to aero pots & seen far better results as the roots thrived.
Strains like GG#4 show signs of doing better in aero coco, as apposed to soil.
I know a guy running a few GG4 clones in a DWC set up.

Experiment a little with different strains & different mediums & you'll find something that appeals to you more so than sticking with the same.

Was looking at these and a few more like it, saw a vid on youtube of the mars and it sounded like a deisel. Really loud imo.

They look grand eh, I suppose your the guinnie pig now? Haha, yea im really thinking of picking one up. Less heat and so far looking around at reviews you cant really fault them. Looks like theres a nice bit of blue in that one too. Was also looking at the small 26-36w leds you can just plug into a normal light fitting, nice to add a few reds in the last few weeks of flowering for a extra boost.

Yeah draw would be power usage, a 300w rated led might only pull 200w or so at the wall.

Aye, I'm moving off the HPS myself. I used similar LED's in NY during summers though. Didn't maybe last just as long as branded LED's, but far lighter on the pocket.

Aye I seen those ones, would they be worth while though? They're always such small output.

I was going to use x2 of the 300w on a grow during veg & x2 on another grow on the same strain only in flower & compare them. I'll keep you posted.

They're just so fucking expensive, it's a big step

As @GreenJoker put it better than me.
Mixing lots of perlite would be OK for seeds, just check how much fertilizer is in the bag.
My regime is light mix with extra perlite for seed and cuttings, light mix for vegging with liquid feed as required and bat mix for flowering.
Buy a couple of bags for a grow and you will not go back. Everything is right and correct from the start... so much easier and much more lovely bud.

In my opinion LED are still too expensive and the cheaper ones are of no benefit.
It will not be long before these take over as the prices are coming down and they are improving all the time.
I have some mixed with CFLs for vegging great if you have heat issues.

Thanks @green. Was thinking that the water retain pellets had some adverse effect is all. I like my soils as from farming background. Water retain pellets is not something I would normally add. Its just that this time round I went with seed compost with a low dose of them in it.
