My son is paid $1200 a week in New York now. He's in the construction trade also.
He started with a company paying like $600 a week few years ago, so I went back over & tracked down a few guys I hung around with & got him in with a good company.

Maybe I'm just splitting hairs here, but it's not private insurance if it's paid directly to the Federal Housing Authority.

I believe it still ends up at an insurance company, like escrow for home insurance, taxes, ect. You can make extra payments and get rid of PMI early.
