Just got this sip box, pretty excited for the possibilities, anyone got experience running living organic soil(running the Malibu mix from build a soil) in one of these sip boxes? I was planning on running a bubble stone to it's 2 gallon rez, and using Beneficial's/enzymes in the water I give it to avoid root rot. Any info is appreciated thanks all.

cool, haven't seen a SIP grow in a while
you gonna put a bigass smartpot in there?
According to the instructions no container is needed, I simply will stuff this thing with dirt from wall to wall and really pack it down hard in the corners and apparently the water wicks up from the corner spots and moistens the dirt, it also has a plastic cover for the top so no humidity leaves the medium. It has a little hose that allows you to fill the res under the dirt.

Here's mine I made from 18 gallon totes

I just did the same living soil mix I've been doing all this time. I use plain water. I got some malted barley seed and mixed that in the soil for enzymes. I use just plain water. I have an air stone in the resi too. I did add worms to the sips too.

Some people add labs to theirs but you can't use an airstone with labs.

Great minds think alike, I got an air stone in mine too :), i'm making a malted barley enzyme tea right now and holy crap is this one foamy and milky, I just rinsed my sprouted seeds and they foamed up so hard looked like they splooged in the water. My box came with this grate and I just put dirt ontop of it, I hope I did it right, I packed the corners hard, it was wicking up when I was testing it out. I'm using R/O water with some bene's in it to avoid root rot, I like the worm idea as well o_O, 18 gallons sounds beastly, the one I got fit a full cubic foot bag of soil than had room to fit another half bag so about 1.5 cubic foot of soil in the top half(about 12 gallons of soil give or take a gallon or two) and 2 gal in the bottom

ah that's cool, haven't seen one quite like that before.
I bet vermiculite would work really well for that

I always really liked vermiculite, years ago my lil brother worked at a landscaping store and um, well, he came into possession of a large bag of vermiculite, and I used that big ole bag for years after, really is good shit
I used to clone in pure vermiculite
Yeah I use vermiculite to grow mushrooms , those lil fuckers LOVE it.

Yup, it turned to mush, trying to learn how to use this thing still I got a bag of straight peat that i'm gonna use for next run I don't think my soil mix was right.

Seriously...? I was only joking.

Don't top water and no teas. Let it wick plain water on its own. Add an air stones to the resi. You can topdress pureed malted seeds every 2 weeks. Instead of doing weekly sst's. Top dress vc

My mix is equal amounts of pumice, peat, vermicompost . Then amended with crab shell meal, neem cake, kelp meal, basalt rock dust, fish bone meal, oyster shell flour.

I believe the earth box only hold 3 gallons of water also.
