Should I cut lower fan leaves?

I can't find a definitive answer online... this is also my first grow.

My plants have 3 bladed fan leaves, and I'm thinking these are basically useless. Mostly the one at the back. The fan leaves are roughly 1/2 an inch from the ground and they are browning/dying idk... (I've topped them 3 days ago) don't want to stress them out.. Would this be beneficial for the plant? I was reading that it would improve growth above, and if I cut the leaves off I could bury the stem into the ground to promote more root growth! (This is just what I've read).

There's ALOT of small leaf development in the middle of my plant too, it's starting to get very very bushy, should I prune some of this away? Again, this is my first grow. So please don't judge me too harshly

On a side note, the plant on the far right is ALOT smaller than my other 2.(About half the size) Any reasons why?

My rule of thumb is i look at the bottom of the plant and if it looks like its shaded or going to get shaded and those leaves are on the bottom 1/3 of the plant, ill take em away. Otherwise leave em be.
When growing sog i might not even defoliate, unless dead leaf, plants stay short and light penetrates nearly the whole height of the plant.

I have been a member for awhile and have seen and heard this before.
Its a 50/50 split.
I personally think that they grow those fans for a reason; to power the plant.
Trimming healthy leaves can only make the plant think it is under attack by insects and it will react to the attack.
If nothing-else it will slow production by having the plant dealing with the stress.

The only reason I asked this was because those bottom leaves (even though you can't see it) they're starting to brown/yellow. so they're no where near healthy leaves and will most likely fall off eventually anyway. Why should a plant try to keep dying leaves alive when they can focus on using that energy to promote more growth above.

Its the opposite it will drain the life and stored energy out of those dying leaves and drop them when its done. The plant knows when its time to drop the leaf. Good Luck

I've done it to one of my plants just to get a side by side comparison, if it stops growth for awhile then at least I know for sure that its the wrong thing to do and I should just leave them alone.

I have to admit I've broken my own rule and for the first time trimmed shades in flower.
I took out the center monster shades and left the top and sides.
the plants seemed to only react for a very short time, but I was very frugal and only took the center and the bottom.
This is a current grow due mid March.

I still believe in not trimming. It has to slow grow if not pre-empt hermaphrodites.

I used to cut them and still do. But, you should punch them till you hear a crush and bend it down and tuck it away.

It's your first grow, experiment with it but leave it alone too.

I lollipop, Supercrop and top.

I Never had a hermie till now, and I love to stress them on a daily basis.

They get more stronger and they can cope better with stress.

It slowes them down for couple.of days some plants will take 3/4 days max to bounce back.

But the results Really worth it all.

Give lollipopping a chance however train the plants since they are young.

If your leaves are turning yellow and brown there's a reason, and cutting them off isn't going to fix it. If your plant is deficient in something and using its leaves to eat and you cut them off the plant with continue to take what it needs from the next set of healthy leaves. Really what you're doing is speeding up the process of yellowing leaves.

I wouldn't unless the leaf is dead even when I lollypop I leave any fan leaves unless they are going to die soon. They are there for a reason have been there for thousands of years I doubt nature got it wrong. Lollypopping is a well known thing though I learned that when I was a little kid growing tomatoes but never heard of cutting living leaves just was never called lollypop must be a stoner thing "I got the munchies hey that plant looks like a lollypop" It was always just cutting the suckers off because them lower branches suck up energy and don't grow nice tomatoes so your good branches make bigger tomatoes.

But whatever floats your boat.
