When to PH

So I finally got a PH meter (been using a pool type PH tester prior to now) and I realized that I can test the PH after the nutes have been added now. So my question is, are you guys adjusting your PH before or after the nutes are added to your water. If it maters, this is not a hydro gro, I'm trying "hempy buckets" this grow. I think I know the answer but just wanted to make sure since I am still pretty new to growing.

Go to Walmart and go to the fish section and look for "Correct pH fizz Tabs" ......they correct the pH to 6.8 - 7.0 no matter what the previous pH was and soil needs a pH of 6.5 - 7.0 so this works right into the range of the tabs.....Stuff is cheap at only $4.89 a box and works wonders....no need for a pH tester with these Tabs....If it works great on little delicate tropical fish then if will work great for plants.....BTW I use this for my fish too...I have two 40 gallon tanks and about 85 - 100 tropical fish and it works great for them....haven't had a fish die in over 3 months

sounds like what I should put in our tap water like a day before we PH it and mix it up would save a lot of time and hassle, you had any hermies ? sometimes the stuff they put in fish products to kill the chlorine makes some plants sex up male ?

pH might be too high for dtw... good idea for soil though I might have to steal it.

No more hermies than anybody else which rarely occurs

The very best time to pH is NEVER.

I use Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect nutes, and haven't pH'ed in months. And my grows turn out fine.

PH is incredibly important. 7.0 vs 6.0 is the difference in certain nutrients being absorbed by the roots or not.

obviously there are gardens out there where people do not PH at all and they have awesome results but, that also works reversed, where gardens dont PH and they struggle with nutrient deficiencies.

if you PH your water to proper levels you are not doing ANY kind of damage to the plant ( unless you are PHing to the wrong level). you are changing the root environment for adequate and complete nutrient absorption. you can allow the PH to swing a bit creating a diverse root environment that will effectively swing back and forth between the nutrients that are on the out side of the 6.5 PH window. nature is not ridged. it flexes so its only natural that temps, humidity, and nutrient uptake also flex...you control your temp and humidity for optimal performance of the plant...why would you skip on the PH balance of your soil which contains the most important part of the plant!!! (the roots ;) )

at the end of the day...taking the 5 to 10 mins during watering to adjust the PH is only going to benefit you, rather than if you skipped to save money or to save time.

There are alot of these charts out there that show soil PH levels and at what levels different nutrients are available to the plant.

I hope that i was clear with this post and that im not confusing. I am a first time grower with more book smarts than actual hands on experience towards cannabis cultivation..so if a more experienced grower would like to contradict my statements then fair play. all of the info i have given is to the best of my knowledge

good luck with your project and happy growingnutrient-ph-range.jpg

Do to ph down being radically aggressive and most folks put it in neat [without diluting] since i mix 10 gallons at a time i try to avoid percipitation so i know from mixing how much i need by putting my dose in the first 3 gallons and si in the next 3 gallons as those are the most tempramental of the mix. I still meter as at times my well water changes in its base measure in the spring.

Great, thanks for all the responses. I've got filters that remove 100% of the chlorine from tap water but for now I'm going to try just letting my water stand in a 5 gal bucket for a couple of days to let the chlorine evaporate out. If that looks like it causes a problem, I'll hook up a filter and go from there.

Well I'm not growing in soil but that doesn't stop me from wondering how you test PH of the soil. Must start searching for that answer. LoL
Theres some cheapo soil ph meters its better to test your run off with a ph meter when in soil i just bought the doil ph cuz i was attempting to build my own f supersoil in hydro alot of people are into the ppm and ec meters
