please do not post in this thread until you see the happy plumber!!

thank you

today we will be making honey oil using butane as a "cleansing agent".

i would like to overemphasize the fact that you MUST use CLEAN butane.
i buy VECTOR 5x filtered off of ebay. many companies add additives to there product. these could include oils and smells. i would not attempt this with cheap butane. you will end up sick. or with just a big gooey mess. VECTOR is $5 and the bottles are double the amount of a jumbo can of RONSON. RONSON is the only other type of butane i would use. please take my advice on this. i have tried them all.

so we have our butane now.

next we need trimmings and a grinder.

a butane extractor with a clean screen.

and a large glass bowl.

you will need some type of storage vessel. i use glass vials.

start by grinding enough trim to fill extractor. i find it to be between 15 and 20 grams. you want to grind it as fine as possible.

LOOSELY place the ground trim into the extractor. you DO NOT want to pack it. this will cause the process to produce lesser results. when the trim is loose the oil can more easily flow down and out the screen. i leave a little off the top. this way i can give it a little shake while rinsing.

now place the cap, with a new screen inside, onto the extractor. TIGHTEN. remove any loose crumbs from the outside and surrounding area. as you will later see they get everywhere. the extractor comes with 3 screens. they can be cleaned with alcohol a couple of times then they start to break down. i have found another material that works well. it is a tighter weave so it is a finer screen. please note that more pressure builds up by using a finer screen. it is harder for the butane to push the oil thru but you end up with a cleaner product.

note the holes in the cap.

now we move to the bowl.

holding the extractor cap down over the bowl insert the tip of the butane into the hole on the opposite end.

now simply fill the extractor. as it fills pressure will build. keep the butane tip in the hole. when you take it out crumbs will spit out the end. try not to remove the butane from the extractor while over the bowl. i always forget as you will soon see.
i will fill the extractor until i get a good flow of fluid out the other end. then i remove the butane and plug the hole with my thumb. i hold it over the bowl while the pressure releases. when it stops dripping i fill it again. i continue this process until i no longer see oil being extracted. this can be done by dropping a drip or 2 on a clean surface. it will quickly evaporate. if there is no sticky film then it is done. i usually use the whole bottle.

if the weather permits i like to place my bowl outside to evaporate. the sun and a light breeze will evaporate it in about an hour.

then i let it sit until it is fully dry. this can take several days or even longer, depending on the thickness of the oil. do NOT disturb it while it is drying. i place mine on an upper shelf to dry. once it's dry it will be crispy and flake off in dusty chunks.

now i place it in vials and put them on a coffee warmer at LOW temp to warm the oil into the vial. this part can get messy. if you get a glob on the end of a small wire you can heat the wire above the glob and it will drip off. or just stuff it in a vial and swirl.

so starting with 16 grams of high grade trim gave us 4 1/2 gram vials of pure honey oil. it will take on the smell and taste of the original bud. this batch is from santa berry. very sweet and fruity.

Fdd2blk do you think it would be possible to reverse engineer the extractor?

simple. find a heavy gauge pvc. glue a cap on one end. glue it tight. i've heard stories of bursting extractors. they are usually big ones and you end up covered in sticky ground trim that does not come off. put a thread fitting at the other end screw on a screw cap drill a few holes. done. once again make sure it is glued well. please do not get hurt. filters are a little trickier. i have not tried brown paper bag yet. i take a potential piece of paper and place it over my lips and suck thru it. you should be able to draw air thru.

i have personally never made my own. my suggestions on this matter are pure hearsay. i don't see why it wouldn't work though.

extractors are available at: Legal Highs, Smoking Papers, Blunts, Glass Bongs, Water Pipes, Smoking Head Shop

nice thread fdd! + rep!
I was told how to make honey oil a while back using a very similar method.. Butane, a 2 litre bottle as the extractor, with the trimmings put in the freezer overnight so the thc hardens and comes off the bud easier

butane freezes when exposed to air. the extractor gets coated with ice around the end and the bottom of the bowl forms a solid layer of ice. this is why you should NEVER try to warm the bowl. it will crack and then what will you do?
