flowering in 3 gallon pots question

Put 3 in 3 gal into flower and transplant the last 2.
You will have 2 big bushes to flower later.
My best pull under a 400 was 10 zips from one scrogged plant.

Hi, everybody!!
At the moment i have 5 feminized northern lights in 3 gallon pots, 31 days old.
in a week or so, i want to start flowering. the initial plan was to transplant to 6.5 gallon pots (25L) before flowering but the thing is that i only have a 400w light (4x4 tent).
and i think they will get too big and crowded for the 400w to properly cover the whole bud sites

i knew from the beginning that 5 are too many, i intended to go with a maximum of 4 plants, but it's my first grow and i was afraid not all will make it. but they did :)))

What do you think? will the yield be greatly affected by flowering into 3 gallon pots? the roots are showing at the bottom, in the holes. not rootbound for sure, but they got to the bottom.

I have this dilemma: go with big pots and increase yield but then the light might turn out too weak for big size and affect yield. what should I do?

here are some pics at exactly 4 weeks old. meanwhile, i topped them again (3rd time) and started some LST.
if there is need to transplant, i would do it now cause i won't like them to get much bigger before going flowering. in 5 days, when they will be 5 weeks old, i would like to start flowering

thanks!! please, comment!
I had this exact problem. So I was forced to build a flowering room & order a extra 600w light, it's for the best. The size your plants are now you definitely won't need 6 gallon pots, so I would just stick with 3 gallons in flowering your yield won't be great but hey weed is weed

Yeah but he has one tent and one light how will he have 3 plants flowering and the rest vegging in the same tent with different light cycles?

actually that gave me an idea... just saying, cause i already flipped to flower a few hours ago
but if the light is weaker for the grow area, maybe it's a good idea to transplant just 2 of them and put them in the background, and the other plants in the smaller pots under the light. this way, the ones in the small pots can gather well under the light and in the same time they don't block the light to reach the ones in the back, that are at a higher level from the ground because of the bigger pots
and flowering them all at once, of course

Create 2 tiers with container Height, sounds cool, are you running a bare bulb?

no

the ones in the back would be at a distance from the bulb proportional to how back in the background they are. so they can be at a higher level with no worried for heat, i guess

when thinking about going bigger with the light i had the idea that 2x400w would be even better for a 4x4 tent than a 600w or a 1000w
i almost made up my mind to go for another 400w
1000w might be a little too much for a 4x4, 600 maybe a little too small if your plants are filling the whole place wide/height
i think that 800w from 2 light spots covers this place best

I agree 2 400w would be best for a smaller tent, if you got room you should get a bigger tent, I got about 8x8 with two 600w hps and plent of room for plants, though I only use the tent as a veg room, had to get another light for flowering room cause the girls are gunna be atleast 50+ inches tall :bigjoint:

8x8 is really big :) i have to learn how to grow first, for the moment the space is not an issue
when preparing to start growing i had this tendency to go big, to grow a lot of plants and get huge yields. now, it's nothing wrong with big yields, i still want it very much, but man.. what a big mistake i would have done to go bigger than 4x4, i realized after i started growing.. and for lots of reasons, from safety and stealth to losing money by making mistakes (the bigger the space, the more money lost)

all you said makes sense but not with my 400w light, i guess. as you said, with a 600 or a 1000 would make perfect sense to maximize my space and yield.
i can't change the light in this very moment so my dilemma from the beginning was:
what would give me the higher yield? 5 big plants (in the big pots) that will have spots with weak light on them, or 5 smaller plants that will get a more even and efficient use of light?
please, tell me
cheers!
Yes that's why I suggested an additional 400 watt or make a complete switch to 600/1000. The last thing you want is to jam pack the room with 5 large pots and plants under weak lighting. If you must stick with 400 watt, flower now in 3 gal x 4 plants and save the 5th as an mother. Not too late to still scrog for max yield.

yeah but i don't have another tent, so i have to stick with 5 plants to the end. not that bad after all but next time no more than 4 plants for this light

First ditch the cool tube as you won't need it in a 4x4 with a 400, bare bulbs are the way to go unless you're having heat issues.
