solar power system runs around 10 racks for a 5kw set up plus a possible 30% tax credit. might be a viable option for 5 lbs of fire..or go led ive seen some really nice 5 watt diode out in the market .

Smart meters, if programed to do so, can indicate how the power is being used. Electric motor in a fridge or furnace produce different signature than led array or of a digital ballast. They will also show usage trends which can be then warrant additional investigating. Also very few things in most homes has a continues power load 7 days a week....

Probably varies from place to place, but here they figure 1500klwatts/month is normal. 3 times that amount and you get the power company and fire department visiting... As testified at court by the cities fire chief, in Surrey BC.(Allard case)

I found a strain that produces very strong high and produces well. Last harvest was close to 2lbs per 600watt HPS. Allowing 50sq/ft of canopy space per light. 9 week flowering. Highly reflective curtains on plant perimeter (never touching leaves) will keep the photons on your plants. Organic, passively feed, and with no Co2 added. 5lbs with less than 2000watts out of the wall can be done. but friend ~ FUCK THE SMART METER ~

So what would you suggest ((steal))?

Solar pannels, generators!

Come on lets be serious, its not all effective methods!

What kind of strain you grow friend?

I do live in a legal state and run a 1400 watt garden (400 veg) 1000 flower) and I get letters from the electric company all the time tellin me I use way more than my neighbors

but is not the amount you use more so than the timings of the lights that tell em what you are doin
What the??? My electric bills are upwards of 5 grand and I have never once received something in the mail saying I use more power then others

i don't understand either. people support a global currency that you can take "harvest" from the internet?

Great to have a farm / acreage with a shop/ or something else to make usage look plausible. here the power company is owned by the government so they can be a real pain in the ass. The supreme court has just ruled they got to let us grow again for medical in Canada. So very soon they can*%$*!!! themselves....

I have LSD from Barneys Farm ass kicking 65 day old school skunk crossed with a mazar. 25 % THC when done right. a 600watt hps produces almost 2lbs in a 6x6 space.

White widow, great strain 8 weeks and its trichom city.

Hash plant x Afghani done in 45days - find the couch stuff....

Dont you get a lot of airy buds? 50sqft per 600? That's a 7x7 space. I'm all for utilizing it like that, just never have.

Two things - if you're building in a rural area, people talk. Word gets around. So I'd get out in front of the issue and take control of the narrative right from the beginning. Let the builder know that you're a potter, and that this part of the structure is going to be a ceramics studio. Potters need kilns, and kilns take a lot of heat - either gas or electric. If you decide to offset some of the use with a generator, that would explain the gas usage. Or, you could use that story to explain a larger electric bill.

Even put a sign out by the mailbox, "Sunrise Pottery Studio" or something. Get on mailing lists and have lots of pottery-related junk mail delivered on a regular basis. The mailman will notice, and again, word gets around. Neighbors and service vehicles driving past (and sheriff's deputies) will notice, and pretty soon everybody in the immediate area "knows" you're running a small, hobby-sized pottery studio. Just be sure you know enough about pottery and ceramics to know what you're talking about if the mailman or a neighbor strikes up a conversation.

Second, you need to be mindful of heat issues. If there may already be suspicions about your energy use, it's not a really good idea for that grow space to be significantly hotter than the rest of the house, because a chopper can spot that from literally miles away. You're going to want to insulate it well, or plan on keeping it climate controlled to match the temperature of the rest of the house. Again, the pottery studio cover story is useful here, but it's better not to attract the attention of a helicopter drug team in the first place. As soon as they start checking into it, the first thing they hear may be your cover story, but since they've already gone to the trouble of starting to ask questions they may decide to just poke a little further and ask a few more.

And what provisions have you made for venting the excess heat? You can't just blow it directly out of the building into the open. Infrared cameras on a helicopter will see that like the exhaust from a jet engine. At night, it will look to an FLIR unit as though you're testing a rocket engine. Check out Barry Cooper's "Never Get Raided" video on Youtube; they show footage of what a grow house actually looks like at night. It's pretty eye-opening.

Honestly, the heat disposal question is probably just as important as the electrical question, in terms of security. I'd give that a lot of thought, because the place you're talking about building could fit fairly well within the range of a grow house profile - new building in a remote area, one room (or even a separate structure) with atypical design features and heavy-duty electrical infrastructure, very high energy usage from the start, maybe someone who is a stranger to the area, etc. If that's a separate building, and it's hotter than the house, it's going to arouse a lot of suspicion. Cops can't legally use FLIR to get a warrant, but they do regularly use it to confirm that this is a house they need to have a closer look at, and then they start looking for other data to establish probable cause.

Edit: Oh, and if your area has mandatory smart meters, I would definitely lean really hard toward alternative energy sources like solar, generators, etc. It's more expensive, but what's your freedom and your property worth? Because if you get popped, you lose both.

Exactly. Same here. I only run about 2500 watts, and it's easy to lose that heat in the background signature of a whole house. I just vent underneath the house, and circulate the ambient air from the room with the rest of the house. I also have an in-room air conditioner unit for that room if needed - not a window AC. That room is never hotter than the rest of the house, and there's no exhaust outlet anywhere. I'm invisible to choppers, and I know for a fact that the local police have done at least one driveby on our block checking every house out with an infrared unit. We did not show up.

Easy to do for guys like us. The OP, though... he's going to have to give it a little more thought than we do. That's one of the reasons we run an operation this size - if we went any larger, we'd have to go significantly larger to offset the increased costs of dealing with the heat and hiding the electricity usage. It's just not cost-effective. We're right in our sweet spot for this specific location.
