How to water plants? (Yes I'm actually asking this...)

Step 1: Fill a jug with water.
Step 2: Dump it on plant.
Step 3: Repeat 1 and 2 as needed...

I get it okay. But the point is how much do I need to water as well as feed?

Also I am using this schedule from http://www.growweedeasy.com/general-hydroponics-flora-trio-guide .

So if I theoretically have a 3 gallon smart pot with 30% Perlite and 70% Happy Frog Soil. How many gallons of water do I need to water my plant? ( Depends on the growth period, size of plant, strain etc.

Also when feeding the plant the 1 gallon nutrient mix do I need to make sure to use all of it in order to get all the nutrients to the plant?

I plan on feeding once a week, regular watering every other day.

Should I just get a moisture meter and go by that? http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-in-1-PH-Tester-Soil-Water-Moisture-Light-Luxmeter-Test-Meter-for-Garden-FlowKN-/321653801179?hash=item4ae40f80db:g:tY8AAOSwYGFUyOIY

Lift up the pot a few times when its dried and get a feel of how easy it is to lift....pour 1 litre of water .... Wait 1 minute .pour another litre and wait 1minute. Do this until you see water oozing out of the drain holes at the bottom , then Lift it to feel the weight.( get the feel of what a watered pot weighs). Dont water until the pot feels again very light , like you where only feeling the weight pf the pot itself.( after awhile you can tell by the weight of the pot when its time to water)Hope this helps

Shit i just use my pointer to lift the corner of the pots, if i got to put muscle into it, i wait another day or so. You will be running in circles trying to use some mathematical formula for when to water. Soil, environment, strain, how many tops,age,sativa/indica ect.. Too much.

I would say don't water/feed on a schedule, like every other day or once a week or try measure the amount of water needed. Do it when the plants need it. When growing in soil I feel its best to either water slowly or let my pots sit is the run off for a little bit. I do it that way because when the soil is dry if you pour water in your pots to fast it creates channels and comes out the bottom without really absorbing into the soil leaving dry pockets.

So what about the feeding? Referring to the chart I see for example 1/2tsp Grow 1/2tsp micro 1/4tsp of Bloom per Gallon. Is this the exact amount you will feed them PER plant? Or just the ratio of water to nutrients that should be used and the amount of water will differ based on the plant?

In other words

If I feed once a week to one plant will I need 1 gallon of the exact nutrient mixture?

Or will i need however many gallons of the same mixture mixed to the same ratio that gets 10%-20% runoff?

i'm just concerned about dosages per plants whether it be deficient or overfed.

Lift the pot and get a feel for it. You could also let it goes until it droops a little and count the days and subtract one day from it. As the plant gets bigger the note frequent it will want water. They will want a lot in flower to.
I hate the auto correct on this phone. Lol.

I need to proof read more.

I also get the ones saying don't do it on a schedule and read the plant. That works for an experienced grower.

He literally just asked how to water a plant. The vague response of read the plant doesn't really apply. The op doesn't know what over or under water looks like.

I will say when in doubt it is better to under than over water. Just watch lower leaves and they will droop first.

I just remembered. I'm SCROGGING. so... l guess I'll just use a finger 3 inches deep in the soil.

First off, I'm Scrogging, so no lifting can be involved. I guess I'll just feel the soil. It's easier to over water than underwater, But I'm using a phat sack (HTG's Smart Pot) and they say that needs more water than other pots.

But my MAIN concern is dosage.

Referring to the chart I see for example Week 3 1/2tsp Grow 1/2tsp micro 1/4tsp of Bloom per Gallon.

OR
Will I need however many gallons of the same mixture adjusted to the same ratio that gets 10%-20% runoff?

I pop my seeds straight in 5-10 gallon pots sometimes. It can take a long time before they need that first water.

I laughed when I read underwater is hard and over is easy. That is the truth.

If a plant does droop it won't hurt. Once or twice will actually strengthen the root system.

I just got done with a scrog. Fingers in the soil tears roots and is inaccurate on larger pots.

When the soil starts looking dry watch the plant. It will start to droop at the bottom.

You won't kill it if it droops bad. I have seen plants where every leave was pointing towards the ground. They will lay down against the stalk. A little water and they stand straight back up.

It won't hurt once to see what a droopy plant looks like.

The longest I have ever gone was 2 weeks and still no droop in 3 gallon pots

That's about how long my sprouts go after planting before their first watering. But then my soil starts off with enough moisture to sustain them for that long.

I have a few that way and some that I tried 80% perlite 20% soil never again...
