Tasty-LED T2-2100 Review

Hey Rollitup,

Just wanted to do a quick post about my recent purchase. I finally decided to ditch CFL's and upgrade to some serious light output. After researching all kinds of different options and ruling out HID for heat and electricity consumption reasons, I decided to go with LED's. Luckily I hung around the forum for a little while longer before jumping on one of the Platinum LED Chinese knockoffs. I checked out Tasty LED and liked what I saw. His prices seemed quite reasonable as the total investment in materials, tools and such would have cost around what he charges for me to build (mostly because I would have had to invest in all sorts of tools). And on top of that, my build quality would have been far less superior to his!.

Another thing that I can say about this light, is its STUPID bright! If you were to measure by Lumens (what I'm used to measuring by from CFL's) this is the cats pajamas! On the vegetative setting, Its putting out double the lumens while using half the electricity! Haven't even tried using the flowering setting yet under plants for fear of burning my seedlings. I have not tried this light with Cannabis, however my broccoli, cucumber, Roma tomato and zucchini's have been exploding in my new home built cabinet with this light. New sets of leaves daily! I'm almost upset at how well this light is working because I started my vegetables WAY too early and these babies are going to get root locked before its even warm enough to put them outside. KUDOS!

Another thing worth mentioning is the heat category. This thing runs very cool! My cabinet is insulated with the Mylar bubble wrap type insulation, the entire cabinet is situated in a closet thats just big enough to house the cabinet. With the door to the closet open and zero air restriction to the passive intake or 4 inch exhaust, Im seeing consistent low 70F temps and in the event the door is closed and locked for extended periods of time (I.E. visitors coming over) the temps max out at around 84F. If i was able to cut the ceiling and vent to the attic, I'm sure temps would remain much more stable, even with the doors closed. With the CFL's in the same setup, I was getting temps in the high nineties unless I turned my fan up to 100%, my fans constantly running at 50% power.

The only negative I have with this light is the integrated cooling fan is LOUD! Its even louder than my 4 inch inline with a carbon scrubber. If the fan could be upgraded to a more silent one, or integrate a fan speed controller into the unit, this product would be 100%!

In conclusion, I do give this product five out of five leaves! Very highly recommended! I CANT WAIT to see how this light will work with my medicine! Also would be interested to see this light used for other purposes (terrariums/aquariums)

I have the same light.

And yes, the fan is a bit loud. Honestly you can just swap it out for a high speed PC fan and reduce the noise.

And with these lights, you want your canopy in the 80s. 80-85F is ideal for these cobs

Thanks for the review. And I agree. I started with CFL years ago. The giant 65 watters I had 4 of them. They work good but they do create ALOT of heat. Plus you have multiple sockets and what not. I still use them for seedlings and when they are small. Occasionally for side lighting. But there are far better alternatives in my opinion. Plus back in the day those 65 watters were $25 a piece. I still have one in my garage and 1 I use in a drop light. I broke the others. Anyway, sounds like you got a great upgrade. Keep us informed.

Looking forward to your grow, I just purchased one of these (T4-1750) for a 2x4 spot, I also have a platinum p600 that will be next to it so I can do a little comparing during the grow. I researched all over the place and read through lots of journals before making my decision. I'm real curious how these COB lights are going to reach out to the edges when they recommend them 12"-14" from the canopy. This was the problem when I first started using LED (Mars 1200) the footprint they say is greatly exaggerated. I did go with the "reflector" instead of the "lens" he mention 2% more light . I was reading a current grow of a dude name "Icemud" he shows a COB grow and I was really impressed with it and he thinks COB with some "blurple" mixed will be the ticket. I'm going to use the COB then I have a couple p150's "blurple" that ill mix in from the sides.
The fan noise has me a bit worried , the T4 has two them but hek I a lot of stuff running in my flowering room.

The fan/s are 38.5 dB, which isn't quiet but not screaming loud either. The highest pressure and airflow I could find under 40 dB, not a decision based on cost per unit (I could save money using a quieter fan) but rather part of a philosophy involving more sink material and surface area than necessary along with as much airflow as I could justify.

so ..... which fans are you using ?

Honestly I could care less about fan noise, it's not overbearing.

Cooling is the most important part, and if the fan really is an issue, anyone can go buy a corsair, coolermaster, or noctua high end PC case fan and swap it out. You'll get better cooling and less noise.

But for someone like rahz, it's not beneficial on his end to be spending 20-30 dollars each for high end fans

who the f is talking about $30 fans ?

Did you miss something?

If fan noise is an issue for you, buy a better fan. Rahz isn't going to spend top dollar on fans.

I don't think it could be anymore clear than that
rahz can put in a quieter reliable fan without spending 30 a fan.

is that too hard to comprehend ?

I'm finishing up fabrication, drilled and tapped almost 800 holes in the last couple days and almost ready to start assembling a batch of 32 lamps, all 2100 series except for 8 T4-1750s. They'll start showing up Friday and will carry on into the first of next week at which point I will start another batch.

Makes me hopeful I will be able to focus exclusively on this job soon :) Tasty has become my priority and as long as they continue to sell I will keep producing larger batches and find new ways to expedite the process.

so why not just put a voltage reducer on the fan to quiet it down, pretty easy,, most of us do it on our DIY lights
