I found a nice deep stream about 60ft wide, looks deep. About 8 mins north of the house. In a small town called LaSalle.

I bought a fishing pole and a small tackle box. Lol a $20 zebco from walmart the new 33.. Lol

I suck at those open face ones.

So I fished a little in Texas, I've only caught maybe 12 fish in my entire life.. Sad I know..

When I was maybe 10 years old at lake O pines in east tx, I caught a massive catfish probably like 12 pounds or so. It had like 6 broken hooks lines in it's mouth.. I drag that beast back to the camp site and my Madre freaked the fuck out lol...

So I don't know two shits about fishing here in Colorado much less in general..

Can anyone help a newb out?
Yes, it's called a fish market !
Only kidding.
I've been fishing since I was a little oltimer. Mostly fresh water. I enjoy just being out in nature I don't even give a shiznit if the fish aren't biting. I took my 4 year old granddaughter down to the pond on the property a couple of Sunday's ago it was a beautiful sunny day and we fished for about an hour. She seemed to enjoy the experience as did I we caught a few bream and one small bass. She reeled them in but wanted no part of touching them unless I was holding them it was a fun time !

What you want to do is look at this the other way around. Look at it from the perspective of the fish.

So lets say that you are a fish living in a very crowded, poor and dirty stream. What you want is to go home with an angler that is going to improve your life and maybe take care of some of your little fishes too. Look for an angler that has some resources and might be in a position of weakness due to the source of that income. Of course, you will want a lonely angler that has not had a fish in a while so they will be extra excited and won't ask too many questions. See where I am going here?

As a fisherman, you need to choose your fish very carefully. You are on the fish's home turf, they have all the advantages.

Go to the Colorado state fish and game website( or whatever its called in CO) and you should be able to look up lakes, rivers etc and see what fish species live in what bodies of water,it will help a lot to know what type of fish your going for. If you need any advise on large or small mouth bass then I'm your man, I'm decent with trout also. I used to fish in local level B.A.S.S tounements in new england.... When I lived in Texas I wanted to fish lake fork and falcon lake so fuxking bad man...HUGE largemouth in those lakes, like 10-15 pounders are not that uncommon. Anyways, find out what your target is, then I can help. You probably want to start out with live bait IMHO, and once you start catching a few and getting a feel for where the fish hang out etc, you should start throwing a lure or 2.... IMHO artificial bait is the real deal, idk, for me knowing that I tricked a fish into thinking a hunk of plastic or metal was food makes me Happy lol.

Yeah, lures are the shit in fresh water but salt water I used to always get shit with mullet cut open shrimp work good too. Nothing like fishing saltwater I kind of want to move to Maine right near the beach I'd be killing that shit without the 2 hour drive. But now I mostly just fish bass cause I can walk to about the best bass pond in New England best I ever fished anyway last year me and my wife went out for like an hour got eaten alive by them black fly's but my wife caught 5 and I got 4 only cause she had her line in first. :bigjoint: But the biggest one I caught was only about 3 pounds. I just do them for fun really I like trout better but I just barely got my daughter into fishing so this year I'm going to fuck some trout up. Definitely got to go camping up north too catch some fucking Northern Pike those look fun. Got a friend with a boat to talking about going fishing in one of them great lakes talking about like 30 pound fish I might just go out their I didn't even see nothing that big deep sea fishing did catch a nice grouper and one of those nasty ass toad fish both in FL though I never heard of grouper up north those things are some of the best fish I ever ate.

Youll be fishing for trout they will like the cold water cut throats only eat bugs so your SOL with that but if there are rainbows use power bait or salmon eggs..still early so the color is probably green or yellow with glitter..worms will work just fine to..doubt youll be catching bass this early in northern CO maybe some cats idk have not fished up there since i was a kid
Not to get super technical but your chances of catching a true rainbow, cutthroat, or other trout in colorado are probably slim to none as state a federal fisheries have breed some german species into their stocks to combat whirling disease, so if you want a non-GMO fish you'll have better luck at whole paycheck foods...
2nd to kingblunted on most of the bait except what the hellgramite? If your in the platt I think its pretty calm where you are and the fish dont want to spend a lot of energy so they'll just sit and wait for dinner to come to them, look for eddies and small undercurrents created by waterfalls and larger rocks.

Get some polarized glasses so you can watch the fish ignore your bait!

have fun

But most importantly @ODanksta , do not give the fish a link to this url or, even worse, give them your login and password. If you do they will know what you are thinking and be able to stay one step ahead of you.

A nasty river bug with pincers. Picture a mix of an ant, and a centipede. 2-3inches. They have a super tough patch on the abdomen so they will never be casted off. If you keep them at ur house be prepared to have them molt and turn into flying bugs. They honestly would be as scary as the alien in aliens if they were as big. My uncle swears by them for Monster rainbows and smallmouth. Google a pic.

Good clean streams with rocks. Flip over rocks and set up a net down stream. All the bugs u catch are good bait. Handle the hellgramite with caution or you'll get pinched. Ha. Scared yet? Google and u will be.

Throwing a few handfuls of corn out from ur fishing spot as far as possible is good chum. Or even a can of catfood or tuna. Just make sure corn is legal where u fish.

I don't know. But around here we catfish with a big weight on a liter(spelling?)

If any you boys come down south come see me. I'll have you pulling 50lb+ catfish.

Biggest I got was 66lb. This fucking fish was bigger than me.
Yea man big ass catfish are fun, my biggest is 28lbs.. Not a giant but still decent.. Have caught 10+ pounders on the regular..

Learn to tie a proper knot for fishing line. Lots of web sites can help with this.
There are a zillion ways to fish, but the easiest & most effective method is bottom fishing with a nightcrawler threaded (not looped) onto a light wire hook. Use an egg shaped lead weight to keep it down. You'll also need a swivel to prevent line twist.
Good luck!

Love seeing the line take off in front of me when fishing that way. Even a Gary Yamamoto rubber worm works good like that. They love the salt.

Old timer trick. Rub a tiny amount of anise oil on ur lure. The best fisherman I've met all carry anise oil in the tackle box. Best for deep sea fishing for ground fish. Pollock. Cod. Cusk. Haddock. But will also work in fresh water.

Can't beat a hook and worm tho. So easy and proven.

Trout in a stream? mepps, panther martin and original style floating rapalas! Or a split shot 15"above your hook with a big fat crawler(deadly when rainy weather)
