Hey Rollitup,
Just wanted to do a quick post about my recent purchase. I finally decided to ditch CFL's and upgrade to some serious light output. After researching all kinds of different options and ruling out HID for heat and electricity consumption reasons, I decided to go with LED's. Luckily I hung around the forum for a little while longer before jumping on one of the Platinum LED Chinese knockoffs. I checked out Tasty LED and liked what I saw. His prices seemed quite reasonable as the total investment in materials, tools and such would have cost around what he charges for me to build (mostly because I would have had to invest in all sorts of tools). And on top of that, my build quality would have been far less superior to his!.
Another thing that I can say about this light, is its STUPID bright! If you were to measure by Lumens (what I'm used to measuring by from CFL's) this is the cats pajamas! On the vegetative setting, Its putting out double the lumens while using half the electricity! Haven't even tried using the flowering setting yet under plants for fear of burning my seedlings. I have not tried this light with Cannabis, however my broccoli, cucumber, Roma tomato and zucchini's have been exploding in my new home built cabinet with this light. New sets of leaves daily! I'm almost upset at how well this light is working because I started my vegetables WAY too early and these babies are going to get root locked before its even warm enough to put them outside. KUDOS!
Another thing worth mentioning is the heat category. This thing runs very cool! My cabinet is insulated with the Mylar bubble wrap type insulation, the entire cabinet is situated in a closet thats just big enough to house the cabinet. With the door to the closet open and zero air restriction to the passive intake or 4 inch exhaust, Im seeing consistent low 70F temps and in the event the door is closed and locked for extended periods of time (I.E. visitors coming over) the temps max out at around 84F. If i was able to cut the ceiling and vent to the attic, I'm sure temps would remain much more stable, even with the doors closed. With the CFL's in the same setup, I was getting temps in the high nineties unless I turned my fan up to 100%, my fans constantly running at 50% power.
The only negative I have with this light is the integrated cooling fan is LOUD! Its even louder than my 4 inch inline with a carbon scrubber. If the fan could be upgraded to a more silent one, or integrate a fan speed controller into the unit, this product would be 100%!
In conclusion, I do give this product five out of five leaves! Very highly recommended! I CANT WAIT to see how this light will work with my medicine! Also would be interested to see this light used for other purposes (terrariums/aquariums)
