After growing for more decades then you've been alive (most likely). I laugh at someone saying "professional" grower. Many of what you would call "professional" have their head up their ass on half the things they do or practice! If one writes a book. That makes them an author. Not an expert on the subject....Jorge is a good grower. He has his head up his ass on several things. "The REV" and his idea's ,,,,,, well his soil sucks ass and the layering thing is stupid. Same for Sub Tool and some of his genetics are weak too. Danny Danko is wrong on things too......Hmm, I've never had a problem with Ed Rosenthal, so there's that.

You say that "chopping part of a plant off will focus it's energy somewhere else". This is true in some ways BUT, not for defoliating leaves from a plant in ANY major amount.....The leaves are the "food factories" for the plant. You remove them and they sure aren't helping any more are they? Now your plant is struggling to attempt to repair it's self from damage. Some would argue that it's putting more into flowering to quickly finish before it dies. Both observations are true! Except that this will now result in smaller tighter buds that while they have density weight, they have no real size and therefor have reduced bag appeal. Not only is this the REAL science working here. I have seen this first hand with friends, over and over again by the same guy!

I added that late in bloom I remove a small amount of leaves from some PURE Indica's that tend to shade some budding and I want them to ripen evenly. No where did I even IMPLY that it would increase bud size.. The amount of leaves removed would maybe amount to 2-3% of the leaves on the plant. This is also done at about a week to go.....So then, as you can see. This is a very minor amount of leaves at the last second.

So, maybe I should have made myself more clear on how this works BUT, don't come on here and attempt to turn my words against me kiddo. You really know not of what you speak or how to employ it properly! The way you think shows logic and not actual book science......I might advise you to take a cpl of Horticultural class's at a local college and really learn something..

Good Day
When I say "professional" I'm mainly talking about mainstream growers who produce lots and lots of bud in grow rooms, outdoors, and huge grow closets who have many years of experience. You can laugh all you want but when I see the dude who's pulling zips off one plant like crazy and he defoliates, I think there might be something to it.

Notice I told OP he should chop during vegetative, I would never chop during flowering in fear of stressing my plant. The leaves are the food factories of the plant and I'm not advocating removing every damn leaf and only leaving bud sights. Trim just enough so light reaches all parts of your plant evenly is all I said. Also, how does trimming result in small airy buds? Every where I've read up on defoliation seems to put to the opposite, that it can improve your buds. I'm literally agreeing with you on how to defoliate and you even admit you do some too to un-shade your bud.

And it's just wrong of you to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Obviously this is a huge point of contention and I never even said you were wrong, just pointing out what I said originally isn't wrong. You're spreading your own idea here that defoliation is bad when it's not bad, it's not good, it's just a thing that some people do and some people don't.

I'm arguing with you because you told me that I'm wrong when I wasn't, notice I haven't called you wrong and I've even agreed with you several times. You're just another grower stuck on his cultivation high horse who thinks their way is the best, I get it.

Hmm, hows 43 YEARS of growing do ya? Gro ops to supply my 2 disp. sound good enough?
You DON'T "know" what your talking about!

Just because you read something, even in many places......Does NOT make it so!

I speak from actual experience! This is a hotly debated topic.....and TRUST me, You defoliate all you like. I'll blow your doors off of every plant you defol!!! YES, defoliation DOES make for smaller bud size at harvest....As for the cpl of leaves I remove late - take a look at my blog pics - specifically the LA Confidential's as that's the ONLY strain I pull or tuck leaves.

Oh yeah! One more thing... Hows an average of 10.4 zips per plant (4) under a 1K, with my WO Organic soil....lets see, that's 1580 grms per 1 - 1k or 1.58 grms per watt. (Blue dream).....That also translated to dbl the old rule of 1 zip per gallon of pot size......

Do I hear the Ramones "Beat on the brat" in the background???

I'm not about to keep arguing with some unarmed kid!!!

You can whip your grow dick around all you want but you've yet to produce evidence of what you're saying.

Congrats on your forty three years of grow experience and dispensaries, I'm great jealous actually, it's my dream.

You know, those of us with huge members just laugh out loud when people bring this "dick" crap into discussions or arguments...While it is offensive, it is also amusing and in the end we sit back and shake our head at the envy so many have for us.... Good 'ole Teddy Roosevelt....

You're an idiot if you think I'm talking about a literal dick.
