So how big would you let a plant get before removing it from a 16 oz solo cup...I'm having an argument with a friend and he said I could let my plants go for awhile longer and I'm saying no...I can't upload a pic but if anyone has a pic or description of a plant at the max size you would let it grow to before removing it please let me see or know..thanks a bunch

You can start to tell when it starts drinking alot more water and you have to water it often and also roots will start to be more at the top after about 2 weeks but it does depend on how much light and how fast it grows, I have 4 of them I am growing in 32 oz cups I flowered them after vegging for 2 weeks to see how they would do

I usually transplant when I see several roots peeping through the drain holes in the bottom of my cups.

I haven't gotten an exact time down for this type of transplant but it seems giving your plant around two weeks in the cup seems to be just fine.

I'm on my second grow and my first time around transplanting to different pots. I left one seed in solo cup for a week before moving it to a quarter pot which it then proceeded to nearly fill with it's roots. When I pulled it out yesterday to move I saw my first ever root-ball that looked like the ones I've seen online.

The benefits of transplanting don't seem to be often discussed but I'm happy I took the time to learn about it.

To be honest I use the smaller solo cups and as soon as the second or third set push threw then i put right into the last pot it'll ever be in

But as many have state its easy to tell just check the outer side wall of the medium if its good pull it and drop it I the next pot

Mine are about 4 inches tall...some smaller some bigger...I checked the two biggest ones and the don't have a great root ball yet but they are exactly where I usually want them to be at transplant...

Around 2 weeks is the rule of thumb.....14days would be fine....
Best answer here
around 2 weeks they start get unhappy and will do anything from slow growth to deficiency to dying from the bottom up especially if they are sativa Dom I had a sativa that out grew a 1 gallon 2 weeks after the transplant from a solo cup was baffled when it was dropping so many leaves transplanted to a 3 gallon and all was well turned out male tho :(

From what ive seen you can get away with up to 18-20" plants before the root system starts to turn brown and all the soil/less is used up. Nothin but roots after 20 inches left in the cup besides a root system that needs more space.

Yeah but why?
The question was how long "should" right? ;)

10 gallon pots are kinda small for me with a SCROG under 1-1K.....I can easy - peasy get a plant to fill a 6x6 area......Then ya need to think about light supplementation over 5x5....Just something "fun" I played with some years back.....After this "trouble". I might just go back to maximize #'s to yield....

Yeah U ain't getting a 5 lber for a 10 gal pot....it
takes a lot to get a lb from 10 gal....yeah I will be transplanting them asap..the ones I have in gal pots are now outgrowing the ones in cups ..the biggest one in the cups is about 4 or 5 inches tall...about three or four nodes ...
