VERY new to growing

I've started my 3rd seed today. I use jiffy pellets and I can get my plants to sprout but they never make it to their 2nd set of leaves. 1st had a long stretchy stem and when I tried to plant it, it died. The 2nd looked good but the seed leaves never opened up all the way, ended up drying out and dying after about 2 and a half weeks. Like I said, started my 3rd today.. any tips??

You just germinating right in the pellets? Make sure your pellets are moist but not sopping wet. I usually germ in paper towels, that has been the most successful for me personally.

I use a moist jiffy cube, and always water it on the saucer, so the lower part of the cube is more moist than the top which i think encourages the seed to root lower in search of the moisture. If the shell is not detatching itself, i would use a sterile set of tweezers to remove it, gently though, if it doesnt come away easily leave it another day or two and try again. I have never used happy frog soil, but i started a jiffy cube with a small seedling in it in a bigger pot with biobizz light mix, and the soil was too fine and it was easier for the roots to push the plant up out the soil than it was for the roots to grow down. So i had to repot and backfill so the plant cotyldons were sitting flush with the soil just so it would support it enough to allow the roots to grow down and anchor in. I only use LED's and i have never had an issue. Hopefully its just bad luck with the seeds. What type of seeds are you using?

Happy frog potting soil and I'm using cfls
You pre water the pot before planting? Should take a couple of days before needing another watering. If you're using a big pot just water around the seedling not the full pot and gradually increase amount and area as she grows.

What's your temps and humidity at? If your struggling with humidity you can place a bag or cling film over the top to keep it moist. I've had to do that and there is a picture in my journal linked in my sig.

Pics would help.

Thanks! Hopefully it is just bad luck. I've been using some bagseed I've collected from good smoke lately

I might have to try the bag. I don't have any pics right now but will definitely start with this new one.
I've just been watering around the seedling when I have been putting it in the pot..
How early should I transport it?

You should water the pot/soil, let it sit for a day and then plant it. The soil should still be moist and not need watering for a couple of days. Sounds like you could be over watering.

Have a look through the above link and see if you are doing anything wrong.

Thanks man! I havnt been doing that before planting. Really love that site too!
Yeah it's a great site. If I'm not sure I'll usually Google the problem then include growweedeasy in the search as it's easier than navagating around the site itself.

Good luck. Hope you get there this time.

a long stretchy stem
If a plant starts to look like a toothpick you may have to brace her up. I use 6 inch bamboo skewers with a pipecleaner wrapped around it. Try to make sure you place the brace so that it does not interfere with the next set of leaves.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Happy Frog soil will burn the heck out of a seedling. Scoop out a cup of the happy frog and replace it with some clean top soil. You don't want it in soil that has strong nutrients, or any nutrients for that matter because the little gal can't take it. By the time the roots pass through the top soil and into the Happy Frog she will be able to take it like a porn star. See pic

I had a shell stick to my seedling. I read that if you put little spit on the shell it will come right off so I tried it and it worked ike a charm, I tried water first andit didn't loosen it up enough.

As soon as it breaks soil, get 23 watt 5000-6500k 100 watt equivalent cfl close (1-3" away max). Then water every 3-4 days well and leave to dry out, repeat.
