Good friend of mine has about $150-200 in solution and a rapid rooter of some sort. I just can't put good money to something like that, when it's simple. Different strokes for different folks. I understand, but I Dont. Lol we argue all the time. Especially when he spends money on rooting hormones that he claims is the bees knees, I always argue thats what I thought the rapid rooter was for. Lol

How do these compare to rapid rooters? One of the reasons I like perlite and vermiculite is that after they've rooted you can rise and transfer to a sterile hydro system as compared to using a plug which you can't take off. I don't use medium; I just use a pool noodle to drop the clone into the tub.

There pretty much the same exact thing as root riot just a different company. I dont use any type of medium myself, i do hydro. Recirculating deep water culture and my grow is amazing. You dont have to remove them from the plugs once they root just simply place the rooted plugs into whatever system your using. for example after mines root i typically place them into net pots and cover them with clay pebbles. i start by putting clay pebbles about half way into the net pot then i play the rooted clone in then i cover it with pebbles until i cant see the root riot/plug any more. In about a week i see the roots peaking through the bottom of the net pot.

Lol...you're keeping it simple bro, I like it. Have you ever seen the air cloning? I was thinking of getting some of those little small round rock wool cubes and trying the air layering cloning.

If your talking about air layering yes I've done it a long, long time ago lol. I used peat and cheese cloth to air layer a few different plants it's a great way to take cuttings in the fields to replant in the fields .

I'm not 100 percent sure because I use root riot. U may have to read the label. But I'd guess not.

This time im gonna try monster cropping. "Clone from flower".
Spray Bottle, Dome, Root Riot cubes, clonex and Super Starter heat mat and controller to run the show. At day 2 now. 24 clones at 73 deg.
Just need 8 to root. Thats all i need and i'm 100% success.

Just curious because root riot cubes are pretreated with a few different things and they should not be pre soaked for ph, just plug and play so to speak.

I know your switching to bubbler/sprayer type and I was seriously thinking that as well but then I thought why (after it was half built lol) and stuck with what I do. Riot root cubes, roots 3 powder and a medium size clear tote with opaque lid, and a layer of perilite to set the cubes in (probably don't need the perilite but I only water once) then it goes on a heat Matt under 2-2't5's. Also I forgot, rusty razor blade and used Res water. I have pokey roots at 7-10 days and typically their in the net pots at 10. I get 100% consistently, with very few failures.

This is pretty much the point I reached. I tried the system out and while it was a success, I have the same success in my domes.
I actually switched from rockwool to these other rapid root cubes though and I like them way better. Rockwool works, but these let the roots spread fast.
To the guy keeping it simple just throwing them in pots, I tried this with a few and it worked! I think it could be due to high humidity levels in the air here right now. Give it another 6 months I imagine I wont have the same outcome lol.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Final result- sticking with my clone solution, clonex, some plugs and a dome. Working great. I did get a blue cheese clone to take off fast though and kept it Hydro. Got her in a bubble bucket now shes throwing out growth and loving it I love cloning, one of my favorite parts of growing.

I love my diy aerocloner. I've got it down to 14 days for 4-6" roots off just tap water. I'm trying to do a low concentration RO/nute mix now, (around .3ec same as my tap) to see if a controlled solution does better, they seem to stumble a bit going from tap to a mixed nute solution. I haven't tried any rooting/cloning products yet, that's my next step. I have some willow on the property, might make my own solution. I want these 5-7 day roots i keep hearing about.

Not to brag, but I've never had an issue with cloning anything I've ever tried. I've cloned tomato ( so fing easy), fig trees, oak( damn hard), lilacs,cannabis a bunch. In everything from a cup of water to just sticking a broke branch in the ground, humidity dome and plugs, cup o dirt, cup o perlite, they always take. I think it's because i don't over think it, cut it, scrape it, stick it in, monitor moisture..easy.

If you really want to make it super easy on yourself then run pool shock into your system while you are cloning. I got a friend that lets her water get into the 80's brews up a good batch of pool shock and uses it with her clones. Sent me pictures within days with rockwool covered in white rootz. She also uses clonex (food and gel) and rapid rooter combo. Warm water + calcium hypochlorite and no organic nutes.

Oh yes sorry, that's what I do to but it's not the 24 hour pre soak and rinse I do with rock wool for PH. I soak them to get them moist. I actually soak in warmer water and only for an hour or so then they seem to work great. The only thing that is a minus for me is they do tend to fall apart easily if not careful handling, inserting stem.

Sometimes they get little white bumps all over the stem but they kinda don't really root, my water is about 74F. I'm one of those who has tried everything to clone and don't have much success.

400gph pump, running 12 sprayers in a 27gal tote, appx 8 gals of solution. I've had water temps from 60 up to high 70's, depends on the time of year, 70-72 seems to work best. Over 75 or under 65 and things really slow down,I use frozen 1 litre bottles of water to cool if I need to.. Once you see white bumps it should only be a day or two before they pop roots. I've noticed keeping the ph down around 5.5-5.6 seems to promote quicker roots, but it's only a casual observation.

How big are your cuts going into the system

I'm doing 2-4" cuts, I was running just tap water I changed out every 2-3 days. I was originally doing 6-8"cuts but they took too long to root. The small ones root faster, then really take off.

I've only used like 5 plugs out of my bag in the last year (ibags going to last me a lifetime. .lol) but I've never soaked them. I put it in a tray with a little water just to keep them moist. I've only used them to start seeds so I've been keeping them a little on the dry side, I add water with a dropper when it needs it

How do they do with seeds? i've always wanted to try them with seeds but i get a little skeptical, i dont want to waste a seed. im scared they'll have a hard time trying to come out that hole.. lol

I germ them first then put them in the rapid rooters. The tap root digs in real quick after that. This method has served me well in the past.
