Yes. I did catch that part. Just am surprised that at 36" you are having issues with the 630. Anybody else with the 630 that can chime in?

I'm running 315W CMH lights vertically, BARE, and my plants come within 6" before they scorch.

well the reflectors do concentrate

i would expect 6" from the side of a bulb to be less bright than an even greater distance from a reflector concentrating most of the light from the bulb into one direction

I have 5 vertical "heath style" pvc octagons with a 6' tall by 4.5' diameter trellis for 28 plants each. I started using 2x1000w HPS lamps inside of 2 cooltubes (I know a lot of people say you lose light from cool tubs and to go bare bulb but I'm close to 10kw in a 7'x34' room) and now I run 2 of the setups with 3x600w HPS lamps inside of 3 cooltubes and according to my par meter I am getting the same if not a little more light while using 200 less watts. I can't tell by yield if I am getting more light as I run a different strain in each setup... Now I've been thinking about going with CBX3590's but that is an expensive upgrade and last night I stumbled across this thread and seems as though I could actually run 4 of these 315w bulbs bare per setup and get the same yield?
Wow, nice vertical setup! Guys here have been saying they think their 315W CMH lights are good for about 500W of HPS. I'm not sure how you'd get 4 to fit in 5 vertical feet but if you could I think they'd do very well for you.

On the COB LED front, I'm not sure how well that would do for you because you've built your whole setup around the assumption of omnidirectional lighting. In order to get the most from my COBs, I had to change my setup to vertical flat panels, the round approach wasn't doing it.

So which , in your opine , is better l.e.c vertical or flat panel l.e.d?

Thanks, I was kind of thinking it would be pretty straight forward to fit 4 or 5 bare bulbs, build something to hold 4 or 5 sockets in the center of the trellis, maybe 1/2 aluminum rod in the center and then weld a flat plat every so many inches to mount a socket or something?
I hung mine from the ceiling with baling wire or the lamp cord.

For a COB design;

This idea reminds me of Nomad, a four sided aluminum box with fins inside, COBs outside, that another guy made for his vertical setup. He changed his mind and decided to run them separately, but I think the idea is basically sound.

For such a design, I'd strongly recommend 100 degree glass lenses; 100 degrees for good spread and glass lenses because you'll be cleaning anything you foliar spray off of them regularly. The chips themselves are far too fragile to handle such treatment, so it's important to protect them.

You've used the 315w LEC in your vertical setup? How many bulbs per trellis? You use a 6' tall trellis also right? Care to share gram/watt numbers if you have used/or use LEC?
Lol, I'm running 315W CMH in my veg, but I'm running 860W CDM Allstart lamps vertically in bloom. These are being phased out in favor of COB LED.

Figured u were talking about cmh/lec pic would have reflected the thought.
I mean u separated the price from the rest with what I figured looked like a titling.
As noted in the same post as the pic, I'm running 315W CMH in my veg. I'm replacing the 600W HPS lamps with them.

Lol, phone auto correct.
And I'm going to start chiming in with yet another perspective on these lamps, as I'm replacing the rest of my HID lighting in veg with 315W CMH kits. In addition, my kits are wired into vertical bare socket cordsets and I'll be hanging my (open rated!) lamps.

Early pic of the first one installed, with a 600W HPS in the background;

Read both post. One says u started installing ur 315w's with a 600 in back. Then u say it is a 860w cmh in front, refer to a 315 in veg then post immediately post a pic of a bloom room with no 315w.

and from what i ve been told by ttystikk i beleive, that bulb is NOT as efficient as the T12 bulbs that run on the low-frequency square wave ballasts, but the spectrum is the same(ish)

No, Sir- you're just a lil confused, I'll see if I can explain better; I showed a pic with a 315W CMH in front and a 600W HPS in back. And that's not a bloom room. You asked where I'm using 860W CDM Allstart lamps and I said I'm using them in bloom, but did not show a pic of one.

Correct. Mogul socket, FTW!
