I have a room that's about 9' x 12' in the basement, ceiling is drop panel about 6.5' tall. Currently have 4 plants in 4x4 homemade grow box, 3 seedlings, 1 just brought to veg week 1, transplanted to 5 gal. pot. I plan on no longer using the 4x4 box and just using the entire room. There are two awning type windows that are West facing, so get lots of sun, plan on blocking them off with foam/reflective material so can still access the exhaust potential with the windows.

Now, even though this room is in the basement, it's a finished basement room, and the room can get 75 deg. F with no lights in use - I'm hoping blocking the windows from sun will lower that temp. Yes, it's insulated behind the drywall, but not the ceiling. I have a portable A/C that I've used in the basement before, exhausting through the basement window in another room, but only during the hottest time in the summer, generally only about a month or so.

Based on the number of plants I'd like to grow, I believe 600 watt will do it. Now should it be open/wing style or an air cooled version? I'd like to stay under or near $200. Looking to purchase from Amazon.

Thanks for any input!

your definitely going to loose some light due to that layer of glass in a closed system. a 600w should only raise the temp about 5 degrees. my 1k raises the temp about 8 degrees. using the a/c to supplement and a exhaust fan should keep those temps around or below 80

You just take the glass out.. you can still air cool it and it will also clear the room and create a passive intake.

I was looking at a vivosun 600 watt air cooled light kit on Amazon. It's unclear if these lights have a vent option on both sides of the light, ie, the fan/duct can blow across OR suck the air away from the light. Also, someone posted that without a fan hooked up properly to the light, it will fail prematurely, has anyone had any issues in not running an exhaust fan with an air cooled light?
