My nephew in-law needed some money, so I sent him to get the stuff for me. Free rabbit manure though! He told me that the guy had 160 rabbits and they were 3ft off of the ground, and it was piled to the bottom of the cage. I think that the rabbit farmer is having us clean his pens for free, but it is all about perspective!
 
I did not attach the stalls together so that I would be able to move them. I had them full of spent soil, but I had no idea how much rabbit manure we were getting!!! So, I took the soil out.

Am I messing up here? I am starting to get a feeling that I should have left more soil in the bins???

I was talking to my nephew about the building that it came from. He said that it was an enclosed area that does not get rain. So, I am imagining that the manure is full of urine. Like that only source of moisture came from urine. I didnt think about it until I filled the bins. There was a lot of hair also.

The guy giving us this stuff is 70+ years old and I think that he just needs help cleaning his area! I could go back and get 2-3 trailer-loads from I understand. He was disappointed that we only got a truck load...

you can always mix in your compost to your old soil later man
it's not picky
and that rabbit poo is PERFECT... you can use that with a lil kelp meal for the entire grow if you wanted to.
I know a dude that does just that, either alpaca or rabbit manure he uses.
if you got a good leaf compost going, along with your wormbin and the rabbit compost?
you'd literally need NOTHING else minus maybe kelp meal

I still have my amended leaf compost under the blue tarp. Really, you say that I dont need anything but kelp? I am scared to touch it until I figure out what I am doing, I have a bad habit of F-ing everything up!!! I hope crab meal will not hurt, I added a little and decided that I should stop blindly adding things!!!
The rabbits were stored in a warehouse type environment and the manure probably didnt see rain or sunshine. I think that is why it looked so reddish-brown the other day? This is from today...

the crab meal won't hurt, i was just saying that I've personally seen grows done with nothing but rabbit manure and kelpmeal
just remember it's potent, so that much rabbit manure that you have is enough for probably 5000 gallons of soil, or more.
only need 2-3 cups per cubic foot.

I see!!! Dude, talking to you makes me realize how much that I don't know! I probably ask the wrong questions most of the time anyways... I probably should have asked how to use it also!!! Really, I just saw opportunity and jumped on it! I have no idea what I am doing mann...

I am working on my guest-house today, but we were going to get a trailer and help this guy clean his rabbit farm! From what I understand, it is too much work for a 70yr old. So really, I am doing him and his rabbits a favor!!! There is about 3-4 16ft trailer-loads available for us! My dad lives around the corner from me and has more acreage than I do and he has agreed to let me store some there also. He has been trying to grow a lawn for years and I think that this would really help him.

Should I start another leaf based compost bin the same size? Should I just mix more leaves with the rabbit manure?

hmmm... well, what i'd do is make most of those rabbit manure bins into wormbins, just let your worms go through it for a while, the leafcompost i'd do apart.
But that's just me, reason is I like to add the compost/amendments together.
but I suppose if you wanted to re-layer your leafcompost you could do it that way too.
just use the manure as the nitrogen input, layer 2-3 inches of shredded layers to single layer of manure.
It's hard to go wrong, just if you do mix the manure and leaf compost together go LIGHT on that manure...
you can ALWAYS add more.

by weight i'd mix the manure at a 1/8 ratio, at the most maybe 1/5
if you don't mind waiting longer you could just mix it all up with the manure and let it sit for 3 months
or if you want it done fast layer it, and turn it every weekend

I added some water to the bin yesterday and today it was getting warm? I had 2x 30gal totes that I had worms started in, and I used them in the 1st stall with old soil. I was hoping that they would side-migrate when they felt like it!
 
Also, I had a plant that was fading too early. So I top-dressed with a chunk that looked like it had urine in it and I think that it really worked as a quick release N. Am I making this up or would it start fixing N def in 3-4 days?

nah that's about right, nitrogen defs are the quickest to recover of any problem
also rabbit manure will have a lil soluble nitrogen in it too.
 
Of the manure's rabbit manure seems to be the best other than alpaca and who the heck has access to alpaca manure? I wonder how many rabbits that guy must have to have that much rabbit poop and what does he do with all those rabbits like does he sell them for people to eat or ? Like I am picturing a rabbit farm or some thing very odd, hopping rabbits roaming the prairie does he have a rabbit herding dog?

hah.. I grew with alpaca manure for a couple yrs, reaaally good stuff, but actually the best is rabbit
alpaca is good too, but it's not as good as rabbit, rabbit is KING when it comes to manure...
VERY high phosphorus and the fact that they mostly eat alfalfa pellets...

I drive by an alpaca farm/wool harvesting farm, every day in fact
my dog LOVES alpacas, it's hilarious
just be aware of the typical llama that protects them..
those fuckers are MEAN... and they can spit a friggin kilometer
alpacas are sweethearts though, they come running up to see us when they see my dog, and she's a 50 lb pitbull
buuuut that's why they usually have a llama there.. cuz those fuckers are territorial and mean as hell

also they have a weird hobby-type following with pet owners, they like the floppy cute rabbits (and why not)
