How difficult is hydro?

In 5 weeks hydro clones can be bigger and more mature then soil grown plants that could take the equivalent of 3-4 months to equal hydro and even then they can't flower as big or be as thick ect the branching and all that fun stuff lol, it's worth the hassle, trust me. Mind you there are exceptions for some beast plants, namely soiless beasts lol

All I do is let them rip in vegetation period then towards the last week or into flowering up to a week or two sometimes, I take the lower branches or small shaded branches and clip them off so its more symmetry looking like a clean Christmas tree sort of. I want them all to get as much equal lighting as possible. Very important for later on !

Some people in here mentioned canopy management, this is true, make sure you can get as many shoots as possible to fill your room 1# all those square meters need to be filled in to maximize your yields 1#

Another thing for maximizing your yield is to tie up your branches as well so they dont fall over and snap , this helps them grow more mass as they don't have to put energy into supporting themselves, this can make for some massive looking buds towards the end !!!

One more thing, this is entirely up to you, after you know what you are doing to maximize your grow .. dialing in your room and genetics ext, adding extras like terpine products that stimulate the plants oil production and adding in Co2, definitely adds more for your yields, but everything else needs to be in order first or extras are a waste of money.

A lost of this is inaccurate. Clones do not grow faster than their seed counterparts.

Well they sure do for me and allooot of others, especially a seed grown in soil vs a clone in hydro ..it's kind of a no brainer, that's why I do it...

let's see what others say ...

What I am saying is that a rooted clone beginning the vegetative period in DWC for 5 weeks will outgrow a seed that has sprouted in soil. Even clones in soiless, DWC will outgrow that too. I have done soil and soiless before lots and with seeds and clones ... Nothing comes close to hydro. This is with my experiences at least can someone show me otherwise with pictures in good conditions ..

its no argument.
i don't get it. are we arguing that a clone will grow faster than a similar size plant from seed?
Clones are taken from mothers to reproduce her identically, except they can't due to the fact that clones never develop a taproot. So if you read my post again you'll see "their seed counterpart", meaning no clone will ever match the growth rate or vigor of the mom.

A proven clone against a random seed, absolutely may or may not have a faster growth rate.

Seeds started in dwc will outgrow and outproduce clones with the same amount of veg time in soil... What's your point. The medias are not comparable.

You guys are making it all complicated I am simply stating the obvious for the thread starter because he's interested in trying hydro and I am just stating some points to consider vs the other. We already know this, perhaps he doesn't or very little, that's all ...

And honestly, who uses seeds when starting in hydro if your already doing hydro for production you should be at a point where you use clones to cut time down, since the growth rate is much higher to start with.(fact) not to mention all clones are select producers vs seed that's unknown phenos included and possible males , why waste time with that nonsence.

i use seeds in hydro. lots of people do.

for clones, you need to keep a mother alive all the time. and with a clone, it's the same strain as the mother which gets boring for me. so many strains, so little time...

how do you suggest training for a 4-6 week veg? Is topping too stressful for the short period?
Personally I only top once, then LST and finally i install a scrog net. I then grow out horizontally filling the scrog net through the flower transition period and flower stretch to fill the screen.
Additional topping may prolong growth a bit, i only top the main once to allow the side branches to catch up.
Basically in the end you want an even canopy so all of the budsites get equal light, you do not want a christmas tree. There is a few ways to acheive an even canopy, just gotta find the one that works for your grow style.

Tons of people use seeds in hydro.
most of those are seeds.

I see what your saying here but then this is now the difference between personal preference and time vs mass output. ofcourse having the extra room for mothers is a plus and not everyone has that luxury, so whatever works for someone may not work for others.

bingo.

for a commercial op (vs my 4 plants) clones would be the only way to go really.

I have done LST and topping FIM super cropping all have their benefits for sure, even canopy, all that, but you can still do exceedingly well even with a Christmas tree type girl. Genetics play a big role as well.

What you're talking about has more to do with uniformity than the actual speed of the clones being better than seeds. It's easier to yield better in a large area if all the plants tops, hence your canopy, is even. And all flowers at the same rate so you chop everything down at the same time. With clones you know what to expect every time, whereas with seeds you get some keepers(that cuts will never touch growth rate or production on) and some slow growers, and some complete duds. Plus differing flowering lengths, stretch and growth rate makes it much harder to predict yield and keep your space in control when working with a large area or a large number of plants.

I'd like to say that these are all good points from everyone here and some good debating, this is what's good about these forums. To the thread starter I hope you are taking all this info in lol

How do you lst with tie downs without medium to stick a bamboo stick in?

Also, for anyone interested, I buy top shelf pheno clones from a friend

Am going to go out on a limb here and guess that he ties them down to the main stalk with a lose slip knot so you can adjust it as the stalk gets thicker.
