Actually what I'd like to see, and which nobody is currently producing, is a lamp with a combination of red and blue COBs, not single LEDs. Like 1 blue to 3 red. I know there are colored COBs out there but seem to be low quality. Epistar has them but how reliable are Epistar? The COB on that linked page actually has 3 different colors in it, RGB, and separate current pins for each. Separate single color COBs would be better because nobody wants green and few people would want 1:1 RB ratios.Ya true enough. I'm too busy growing to do the DIY bit. Not sure about the IR. Perhaps incremental benefits that won't make it cost effective to the buyer. I grow fine with the lights as is and have thousands of photos to attest.
I was the one that suggested they use a simpler side vent design but keep the Web vent backing.
the side vent case cost to produce was higher and people want a light that costs a bit less. The grow results will however be improved.
Mars is definitely not a benchmark for success. The GrowthStar are better than any Mars and I'm not going back to that nor HPS. I was just referring to the flat side vent that are not louvered like on GrowthStar 6X MCOB.
The new light is MCOB and with more attractive specs than the current models, even DIY growers can afford to try one for themselves.
If you deal with China then yes you will get shit on. So deal with a North American company that will back their customers. I learned this the hard way. Chinese companies lie about specs because their sales reps are trying to meet their sales quotas so they don't lose their jobs. This is a flawed business model that won't change anytime soon. Short term thinking.
I also found some "full spectrum" COBs, similar to the MCOBs mentioned in this thread. Pretty cheap in quantity.
