In general at about half way through flowering does in make sense to remove fan leaves that are blocking bud sites from getting light??

no, leaves are what feed the plant, and help via photosynthesis, to create foods and sugars that create bigger buds.. taking leaves to get more light to the buds, that don't do much photosynthesis wise, is cutting off your nose despite your face..

I usually remove mine in small amounts here and there that are blocking bud sites. Indica's I remove more... What would be the effects of removing too many fan leaves?? Would plant lose yield??, maybe thc, etc ??

if you must, just tuck a leave that you think is getting in the way, but like i said earlier, buds don't really have much to do with photosynthesis as they don't contain the same amount of clorophyl as leaves do, so leaves are what produce bigger buds..

I get good yields raceboy, I seem to know what I'm doing..... Just trying to tune in it, I also understand strain and genetics play a part. So strains might not care as much if you remove the leaves and others might.

you can do what is called lolipopping, which is basically removing the bottom 1/3 or so of growth from the plants, usually taken around the second week of flower..
Let me get a yogurt.. I could debate for months.. Debate wrong word, more like talk..

I would also like to recommend the BoltHOuse Blue Goodness drink for $5 for 1.625quarts, not cheap...

Back to my point. Ive been growing smaller plants for 2 reasons. 1.) My tent is 6ft, so with all equipment, plant distance from lamp, etc. I think my plant can't be higher than like 40 inches with 450hps.. 2.) better light penetration bc plant is shorter which is like a lollipop itself, get what I'm saying??

I would rate my success like an A, my biggest plobem is I only use 450 hps lights, if I ever get a better setup I'm going with Big LED's for light penetration... Ther problem with lollipoppi say at like day 12 or 14 or flowering is that my plants grow a lot in flowering bc I use DWC. My avg plant is like 8" tall and say on day 12 of flowering it is about 15" tall so there isn't much to remove.. ALSO SHOULD I JUST REMOVE THE LOWER BUD SITES TOO?.... I know all the uncle ben's method's too.... IM a pro.. its more about strain and planning ahead with these plants... I'm getting 8oz off of some of these strains in a 3x3 under a 450 hps only in veg for like 4 weeks.

Does it make sense to get a light meter?? Too position the plant better, and possible know what lower parts to remove of the plant depending on the lowest reading ??

He does. ;) I just take out the bottom retard branches. And the center suckers into the bottom center. Dunno what racer does but i do a little "thinning" in the center and on the lower lowers.

Strain plays a big part. If you dont like lower larf pick another plant to clone out. Some look real good but the bottom third is shit. Some make great bud from shoulder to tip. I like those.

I picked up a cheap amazon meter and it works great for my use. Probably not very accurate, but it's repeatability is pretty good so it's accurate to itself.
Leaves contain something like 20 times the chlorophyll as buds. Buds could be considered the fruits, like an apple. Apples don't photosynthesize, so why douse them with light?
I will however remove a couple of select top leaves so the bottom leaves can get a little light. If possible, I'll even try to hide the lower buds under a leaf since light is known to degrade THC.
Popcorn buds generally get pinched as soon as I see them. I don't want the plant wasting energy on little larfy crap that takes forever to clean and weighs next to nothing. Maybe that's just me being lazy.
