Fort Mac Fire

This has F/A to do with mmj, but I just want to let riu members from that area know that we are thinking of them. The pictures of the destruction are heart wrenching. A good friend of mine lost his two young kids in a house fire about 25 years ago, and now he is sitting in a hotel room not knowing if he lost his house again.

Seems a little weird as no one is talking about putting it out...they just show flames and people driving away...
Hope they dont kill anyone in the process.

any decent lakes in the area? why don't they have the martin mars tankers on this? (everytime there's a huge fire, it baffles me how long the government fools wait to pull out the big guns)
yeah they're expensive.. but they bloodywell work.

Coulson is sending the Sikorsky, but not the mars ..as they've not been asked. cheap arse govs.. we're gonna lose access to them and be truly screwed soon (they're looking elsewhere as our leaders aren't using them.. until they absolutely need to -like last year.)
it's gonna be a rough fire year this season i fear.. already a tonne burning :(

All I hear is people saying...Its only houses..its only stuff...and doing zero to stop the fire!!
There are hundreds of dedicated, exhausted firefighters on the ground doing their damnedest, but they should have every available tool helping out...including the MARS. The military has a large base in Edmonton full of soldiers doing fuck all...they should have been there yesterday.

Agreed! It's hard to believe this is happening in Canada to a city of this size. All available Federal assets as well as military boots should have been on the ground as soon as they knew the city was deemed at risk. We're talking 88k peeps displaced in 2-3 days. WTF are they waiting for?!?! These folks need immediate relief ffs!

2 dead this morning in a car accident. Also said accident sparked another fire. Not a good scene.

One of my employees had to watch her house burn to the ground on her security cameras today.
Tragic and devastating. It's not a house, it's a home and it's filled with possessions and, in some terrible cases, pets.

Very sorry to hear that. I'll keep her in my thoughts.

wtf are you hearing mate. My brother has been up there FIGHTING THE FIRE well before it reached the city...

This is fort mac. The life blood of our country in a lot of ways. Better check yourselves. Unless your up there you cant know what they are and arent doing. This fire is has been too large to extinguish for a long time, well before it reached homes. Unless you know that area, like myself, youd see how impossible it is. Dry brush, +30'C, lighting storms GALORE, massive winds. They have crews from all over up there.

Much love for those working for everyones safety, Fire and EMS. As for Fort Mac, I have some mixed feelings about that place, but friends and family still call that place home.
