Im confused on it bro, i have read at least a hundred different suggestions as to how far to have cfl's from plants and i have heard anywhere from damn near touching the plant to up to 30inches away, so i say just play with it yo, and is that 250 an equivalent or actual wattage? Either way i say you got some room to play with so do what works for you.

As close as possible without touching. An inch away works.

With one big bulb and a decent reflector you could put it maybe 4" away.

Its 250w actual wattage. Ive got it 6in away from my tops, about 2ft from pots, and I think thats fine. However, Im more trying to sus the intensity and its drop off. Unless someone pops up I guess ill need a lightmeter.

Ive already burnt my very precious Orchid and African violets! :s

Dudes.....if you can,buy some 23w 5000k or 6500k(daylight) to start your seedlings. One 23w bulb above one seedling should be good for 10-14 days, then more light once root growth is established or when you get a second set of 5 fingered leaves. If you can't get different bulbs put your hand below the light, palm down, light shine on top.If it burns your skin,it'll burn the plant, adjust the distance accordingly.GL

I have 2 24 watt t5 tubes was going to do 4 auto flowers in 5 litre pots plus it would be cheaper on the electric bill aswell using the t5 first

That's a good start, the t5 you should be able to keep close.Of course add more light as the plant grows more foliage.GL

Going with bio bizz all the way considering it's cheap and easy way to go starting the babies under a 4 tube t5 bulb first then when in the final pots I am going to blast them with the 1000 watt hps for 2 week then flower them

I use T5s which are a little cooler than CFLs but as a general rule I place my hand directly above the plants and if the heat is uncomfortable for my hand than its uncomfortable for the plant. with new sprouts the light need to be higher to keep from burning them

Hand test works I use t5 on seedlings about 6 to 8 inches with a fan blowing over the light.and the plants seem to like it they am short and stocky
