Will I run into problems using a 5 gallon pot outside?

I normally grow in a 15 gallon smart pot next to my main inground girl each year.
Ive never had much of a problem except that in extreme heat i need to water daily , i would think that in times of extreme heat for you your gonna need to water couple times a day
Go 15s minimum but like mwooten said double that would be ideal

Thanks for the advice, I actually just ended up doing that i cut 1/2in holes in the portion set in the ground and gonna let it do its thing the area they are in is my old compost spot we composted for years in that spot so its amazing soil gonna be fat. thanks ky

I just logged in to ask a similar question...what sized pot for outdoor. My concern though was rootzone temp...
So... where i am it gets up to 30 deg celcius on hot days, maybe 6 or times through the summer but is usually around 25 deg celcius most days. Would 5 gal be okay for root zone temps in that environment?
Also...it is a short season here. Ill be putting those plants out in mid june and frost starts around here in early sept. So... they might get 5 weeks of veg before they start to flower and then theyll be cut down early ...mid sept. I dont think rootbound will be a prob...just wondering about temps...

What was your average weight from those? Looks like you were growing in the woods? How many hours of direct sunlight would you say they were getting?
My yard gets varying amounts of direct light, and I'm growing in smaller pots than I have before (5-15g), so I'm trying to get an idea of what can be expected, or at least what the potential is. Thanks --

Technically in a 5 gallon pot but you have worked the soil underneath as well correct?

N too answer the question above I pulled over a half lb off the biggest ones n little less on the smaller ones. Its hard too say how much sun cause they got moved threw out the year. When I start them I do it at my house n I get all day sun with no shade all but a half hour in the morning n a hour in the afternoon. That's till they get about a foot tall. Their final spot was about 8 or so hours of direct but the biggest one only got 5 max cause I had it by itself in a completely different side of the hill. It just comes down too not over doing the nutes or under doing them n training, training, training lol.
N now that I think of it that last picture is the one a bear used as a punching bag early in the year. He super cropped the whole thing for me lol
nope that's all in the pot. I grow in the mountains n it's super rocky up here when I pulled those there was roots laying under the pot but from it being so hard n pact in they didn't go any further.

nope they couldn't cause I'm on the side of a mountian n it's super rocky n hard packed. If you had them ontop good soil I know they would have been 2x the size n weight.

There was roots laying user the pots at the end of the year but they just layed under it n didn't go into the ground. I could move them just by grabbing the stock n walking away lol

If you grow weed, you will run into problems. It most likely will have nothing to do with your pot size though. Problems are a part of growing. It's how you deal with them that matters. Good luck with your grow.

i just transplanted a birthday cake that was in a smart pot and the roots were going through the bottom of the pot. so i can see how it would be able to be put on good soil and let it root into the ground through the pot. I put the Bday cake in a 4 gallon milk crate the thick plastic ones with all the holes filled it with dirt dug a 3 inch hole and set that straight in the ground gonna be fat.

Hell yeah man. Bury like half the smart pot n ull have them coming out the bottom n sides. More roots = bigger plants lol. Wish mine coulda rooted in, woulda doubled the size easy. Those smart pots are amazing too even alone. I'll never go back too plastic ones for my final pots.
