Are cobs worth it?

Under led over all quality is better, but single cola's directly under the hps tends to be better. The led's spread the light out better so everything gets dense rather than hps producing killer bud in the middle of the light leaving larf everywhere unless you clean up real hard. But the cob's efficiency is what I like haha I'm a little nerd for it.

How is there like 3 pages more of this when I wake up?

They save electricity. And cobs are not always the best choice. ROI is ~11,000 hours over 1000w SE HPS(1798) if going with 600w(~1550 on the canopy) of 56% cobs at $2/w. 2.5 years at 12/12, $.12/kWh and $60 bulbs every 2000 hours. Electricity being the biggest savings, so cheap electricity drives this longer. That's kit DIY prices.

Now ROI of 675w of 50% efficiency at $1/watt is ~5000 hours. As the tech gets cheaper in a couple years I'd like to just buy new led fixtures at this efficiency and price point, so HID will get pushed aside eventually.

@Growmau5 you can use my jokes if I can use your videos to make bright ass lights. :D

Somebody in this hps vs. LED discussion mentioned something about weed prices coming down. That's already happening and the expansion of medical and recreational markets in north America will kill hps quicker than any other factors. Once the rec market opens up the mere volume being produced (including outdoor, or greenhouses) will lower prices to the point where indoor growing will be relegated to specialty/niches and personal grows. Almost every hps user I know, particularly the hps die-hards, are selling their wares in the black market where today you can still get some decent money for it. Once that market dries up or gets to a certain price point, efficiency and gpw will be king for indoor growing. The dinosaurs will become extinct quicker than an asteroid hit. Indoor growing in general has a short life span once all these changes in the market come into play. Unless we get our shit together and find cost effective alternative power generation, the cost and availability of power itself will become another restriction.

Prices are going down because you read that in hight times the magazine. Prices are the highest they've been in 2 years. Oh and the king of indoor is straight dank.

Stop that, COBs don't grow better bud than other lights, if anything they have less trics because they have ZERO UV light. They might yield well because they produce a ton of light but the spectrum definitely leaves something to be desired.
That's easy to enhance since the uva/actinic blue requirement is low. BUT not absolutely needed, cause flowers grown under cobs are pretty dammed frosty as is.

if your talking about UVB/UVC, hids don't put much if any in the canopy because of the protective UV blocking glass.

So YOU STOP THAT

They keep passing all these BS laws here in Colorado, now you can only grow 12 plants per household no matter what, even if you have a higher plant count medically and they are slowly getting rid of caregivers, basically commercializing cannabis out here, next step will be to eliminate home growers all together. They want you smoking death(tons of pesticides, fungicides and unknown horrible chemical fertilizers) and paying them money(taxes) to do that.
wa state is forcing 90% of the medical dispensaries closed and forcing most real medical growers, providers into the underground.

prohibition has been reborn even before prohibition ended.

Same in CO some places in CO limiting caregivers to 18 plants I can grow more If i grow for myself having a 24 plant count
