First, who the fuck cares if one, two or five LED fixtures make your apocryphal pound? Set a price point, a watts drawn limit and let the configurations sort themselves out. If it takes three units to equal a thouie but added up they hit your targets, then frankly they're very probably going to do a better job than if you crammed all of them into one box.
Second, add me to the list of people pulling the same weight or better with LED vs HID lighting.
Third, that heat is inefficiency, concentrated into a very small space. Not only is it costing you yield on the table, it's costing as much power to be used cooling it as it's pulling from the wall. You wanna save power? Solve your heat problem!
Fourth, and I saved the best for last, new generation LED lighting does a lot more for your crops than just use a bit less juice; not only am I pulling more weight, but it's a better class of chronic to boot. Denser, stickier, more resin content, more pungent flavors and aromas and widely agreed to be more effective. If it didn't save a fucking dime in power consumption costs, these reasons would be enough to upgrade on their own.
Besides, the value of the crop is high enough that the real difference in electrical consumption costs adds up to mere grams per crop. Talk about an irrelevant detail relative to the rest of its benefits, lol
I don't think you save that much power, to hit a 4x4 proper you need 12 cobs: in set ups like GG, or GM they don't have heat issues cause of how the rooms are set up and open. if you ran 12 cobs in a 4x4x6 tent, you have the same heat issues as running a single 1000-HPS if not more since you would have to DIY an air cool system. 12 cobs, 80w's @50% E that's still is 960w pull.
with my sk's there was zero heat problems, the HPS had a effective cooling system, right now its hard to control all the heat sources, other then pump A/C in which works twice as hard since the heat is dumped right in to the tent or small room.
today was one the first hot days: so I was able to test how much better the cobs would be, they are not I would run the A/C less w/ HPS air cooled hoods, there is a lot less heat in the tent. to correct with the A/C
or maybe its the T3-2100 design flaw, inadequate cooling, TBH I'm thinking or returning them. T2 does not have the same problem. its about 89 on the heat sink from the gun, the T3 are 101 on the heat sink. after 4 hours on. the CMH is 85 on the hood, but the reflector is 94, but its redirecting IR from the bulb so I think that's still a good temp.
what I'm learning quickly about cobs is cooling is paramount, even though its less watts if the thermals are not managed they are just as hot, makes it harder to correct since you have more then one fixture dumping heat in the grow area.. without A/C the plants would have been damaged.
I run 2x 8'' can-fan max-fans, then the 6'' in duct w/tripp lite 12000 A/C outside temps where low 90's I started correcting when temps hit celling 91f/ canopy90f/ pot 85f
had to run the A/C from 10pm-5am. growing in a 4x10 tent only using about 4x7.
