Now that I've got that out...
I know they're related, but since Amerigo Vespucci wasn't Latin, but Italian, his name was not Americus, it was Amerigo, so you're just being overly pretentious and incorrect at the same time.

Omg, kid, grow up. If you knew they were related, you wouldnt have mentioned a small town in Georgia. Clearly a know it all, I can't help to think that all the pretentiousness is all in your pocket. Americus and Amerigo is the same, just two ways of saying it. Considering the predominant language in Italy was Latin at the time, and most of the writings were also in Latin, I think it's safe to say that there not much you have been correct about here. I suggest you bow out before you hurt yourself.

The predominant language in Italy hasn't been Latin since about 600AD.

Once Justinian reconquered much of Italy, destroying it in the process, driving out the visagoths and others, who then flooded back in, the language changed.

Latin remained the language of learning and the church, and the lingua franka of the western med. But it was and is a dead language since well before the time of Vespucci. It was a common tongue, but not a native tongue, and during his life no one would have called him Americus.

Anyone could see they are similar names. Amerigo, Americus, very similar. But you're wrong in placing his last name first.

You're also wrong that the entire western hemisphere landmass is America. They are called 'The Americas' plural. Not a singular place name.

The only terms I have ever hear that describe the entirety of the western hemisphere are "mundus novus" or New World, or Columbia.

The first map ever was by a German. He did write America over it. But for fucks sake this guy thought Vespucci was the first to discover it. So he was in error about a lot.

You can't teach stupid...

All you want to do is argue, and you are not correct..
This is the politics form. What is it for if not discussing where we disagree? I could agree with you if you'd like, but then we would both be wrong.

Im not interested in tit for tat, and you've lost my interest and this is why..

-I bring up a peeve of mine about how US citizens excludes other Countries in the western hemisphere then referring to the term "Americans";.... that there's not one legal document set forth by anyone in the world, outside the US, that states this; that some people, including myself find this irrationally annoying.

You respond with no facts other than the statement "you're wrong", and respond with North America and South America are not on the same continent, when were again, no world census that says so, in fact, only in the US do they feel this way.

-You must be right. Why? ..because US logic.

- I call him Americus, because he signed his documents this way, because he was educated by the church, because he spoke and wrote in Latin like most people people where he traveled and correspond with, and because I chose to call him a name which he actively used.

- You called me wrong because Americus is a hick town in Georgia; ...because of his birth place, as if people don't spell names differently based on your upbringing,

-You must be right. Why? ..because US logic.

Then, with nothing to do with my original point, you talk about how people magically forgot how to speak/write Latin, especially the wealthy.

You speak nonsense... but hey, you must be right. Why? ..because US logic.

US logic trumps all! Why, because US logic says so...

The US is the only one that has America in its name. What other name would they call themselves?

Neither one of us knew Mr. Vespucci. At least I'm not pretending to have intimate knowledge of the man.

You presented no facts of your own. Other than saying the land masses get their name form a man who's name you got wrong.

Vespucci Americus. When in fact it is Amerigo Vespucci.

My only point was to show you weren't as smart as you claim. I accomplished that.

The Americas contain only one country that has America in its name, the United States of America. That's why Americans call themselves Americans. What other name could we go by based off the name of our country?

I didn't say "Americans", I said "America", as in a geographic place. I did say, calling yourself "Americans" makes you look lazy and dumb.

of
əv/
preposition
  1. 1.
expressing the relationship between a part and a whole.
    "the sleeve of his coat"
  2. 2.
expressing the relationship between a scale or measure and a value.
    "an increase of 5 percent"
"America" is where the United States is.

More US logic I see...

I'm not dogging you for a typo...

You make a post calling Americans dumb for calling themselves as Americans and calling their country America for short.

I will conceede to you that It isnt totally improper to call him Americus, although that wasn't his name. History doesn't record that as his name. Historians don't call him Americus. Scholarly works of his time did, harkening back to classical Latin that was never spoken by people. You are in the vast minority to call him Americus...

But You got his name backwards. That is the bigger mistake.

And. You still haven't given an alternative.

What should Americans call themselves? What should the call their country?

When people around the world say "death to America" They aren't talking about Guatamala!

All those books... no scholars there.. ok

I've always used the phrase "US citizens", but I'm sure you'll say that's wrong too.

People around the world... lolololol
..people hate the USA around the world, point on! Probably because they are never wrong... ever. Exactly, Lol.

'Merica, fuck yeah!, right?

A typo is a minor glitch or error, using the wrong word, spelling incorrect like that. You got the names out of order, spelled them correctly, but exactly backwards. That isn't a typo, that is ignorance, while calling someone else ignorant.

All I wanted to point out, a US Citizen is not wrong, it is just too wordy. It is specific. If from Brazil you say Brazillian, if Canada, Canadian, Chile, Chilean, United States of America, an American.

That is a very petty thing to be so butt hurt over.
