If you vent directly into the chimney ,without an elbow causing the air to flow straight up, it will create a mushroom of air that creates positive pressure and doesnt allow passive vents to flow. Most water heaters have passive vents that rely on the heat of the air to carry the gasses upwards.I am confused...how would hooking an inline exhaust fan from the room blowing up the chimmney cause c02 to build up?
You need to make sure your vent for tent points UP not just IN to the chimney or you get a mushroom of air that stops the warm gasses from the water heater. Then the water heater flue fills until it starts to backflow into the room.
