Why Would You NOT Grow Autoflowers? — The Commitment-Shy Hobbyist

And you yielded pretty poorly... My point is if you want to actually get something out of them, you dont have as much room for error. They aren't any easier than a photosensitive plant, light cycles aside.
Seed bank spec'ed 'em out at 20-30 grams per plant, and I came in at 29. Given what I'm attempting here, I'm not entirely sure why I should be disappointed. Certainly I expect that my technique will improve over time, but should I be crying into my beer instead?

I don't see why you are totally not seeing my point here...

Any cannabis plant is easy to grow.. They are weeds and pretty hardy. I'm not talking about just planting them in your backyard and forgetting about them for 3 months.

Now if you bring those plants indoors and go soiless or full hydro and plan on getting more than the "seedbank minimum" you will probably find the photosensitive variety is more forgiving with nutrients and if you make a mistake you can just veg longer to make up your losses. You aren't locked into a 3 week veg period.

And I couldn't agree more. Technique-wise, I am not worthy. But what I consider worthwhile might be good enough after all.

I've been on this site just a few days, and it seems that the range of topics covers the most casual growers up to seasoned pros and beyond. The last time I tried growing was many years ago in college, and it didn't end happily. So when I come back to growing now — now that I'm legally growing my own medicine — I'm taking a relaxed, casual-hobbyist approach to it. I welcome all of the great information available from the knowledgeable posters at the same time knowing that I'm not going to take all their advice on board simultaneously.

So what I've done is applied my rather ordinary gardening skills, along with a forgiving climate, an average amount of low-tech loving care, and Amsterdam's finest auto genetics. And it worked! I {name redacted} have actually produced smokable (pretty good, actually) smoke. A landmark in time has been passed.

And that's the humble joy of the hobbyist grower. If I was Home Depot and I could sell "Potting Stations" for 149 bucks a crack to "hobbyist growers," I'd certainly be doing so.

Beautiful looking plant there. No doubt about that. But what is the picture supposed to prove other than that?

Frost does not equate potency. Trichomes are not created equally. It's more about specifically what's inside the trichomes.
I would wager its in the high 20%. Mephisto has shown some test. I can't finish a j of it. I've tried and I've been smoking it a while.

I had a buddy move to Cali back in the late 90's. From then into the 2000's he would bring cuts and weed back in with him.

Elite this elite that. What ever man. Yea some were good.

Sorry but the bar is higher and breeders are pushing the limits on what the plant is capable of doing.

Genetics are fine and everything but there is more to it then that. A lot of how you grow them determines how potent they are.

The best way to find out is start growing with mixed spectrum and more blue in flower and run UV all the way through.

Of course there are amendments that help to. Not so much with potency but with terpene production.

The plant is only capable of producing so much cannabinoids. Its not really going to get much stronger than they are now.

^This is worthy of a virtual high-five :) It's a proud moment and worth savoring IMO. I just passed 1 year in my medical grow, having never even kept a house plant previously, so I know the feeling ;)

As to the OP, I've run Autos before and will again, but I have to agree with others that they generally feel much less forgiving than Photos to me. If I fart in an Auto's general direction I expect 1 week of slow growth lol...

- can't clone an auto THIS IS A REALLY BIG DEAL most of the best plants come from pheno hunting and cloning the chosen few.
- can't tell the plant when I want them to flower
- autos are actually harder to grow despite the appearance of being simpler

autos are really best for outdoor growing in areas where winter is coming.

Bull shit.

Autos are just as potent as anything else.

I grew mephisto kush va stitch + they were just a leafy as the pics you posted.
Also, I didn't bother having them lab tested because the most important test is my lungs.
I grow TK/Fire/F-cut(nepali og)/gg4/forum gsc consistently, some only in the mid 20's.

Those pics you posted look leafy as fuck compared to what I grow.
I don't care what they test @ either, quality is lacking.
Can I get some bud with that leaf?

Those were 3 ft at chop.

Outdoors with the right size hole they would've gotten bigger and produced half pound in 90 days.

A good breeder can produce fire seeds.
A good breeder can try to produce fire autos, but they'll always be more leafy.
How do you keep that leafy ass fire auto? All you can do is buy more seeds + hope you get another good 1.

You can keep growing leafy bud + I'll stick to these clone only elites.

I've grew them outdoors + none get over 4'.
I didn't grow "super autos", but I doubt they'll grow much more than 5'.
Also, I get 6-10lbs off outdoor photo plants(4-5 from og's), 12' tall 8-10' round.

+ autofems don't know what you got until the end, but with these clones it's already known what's incoming.

I don't think its a matter of which one is better, auto or photo.

Its more about what style suits you.

Photo has so pros and cobs. Like seperate veg and flower area.

With an auto you can perpetual grow with one room. It cost me around 20 bucks a month to run my fan/filter, fans, and 432 watt light 20 hours a day.

Yea keep those elite strains is nice and all but I don't sell. So if I keep a strain, get tired of it.

I'd do both, photo and auto. Both have pros and cons.
You claim autos are just as potent as elites, then post those leafy ass autofem pics.
Really only proved my point...

And what I'm saying is that "niche" is a pretty big one, and offers interesting opportunities to entrepreneurs of all stripes. Much like home winemaking there's a low-expertise, high-payback market of potential hobbyists out there, and autoflowers could be a meaningful part of the mix.

It's a whole 'nother thing compared to expert growing, which is (I take it) the baseline of this site.
Muddy the gene pool with crap genetics for all the new growers.
Why don't dispensaries stock autoflower bud if it's so much better than elite clone-only?

I don't see anything special, just another leafy ass autofem bud.
Compare those pics to kgp tk pics...yeah

Because I never see Auto seeds in the biggest seed and clone seller in town when I go pick up new genetics..

I'm sorry bud, looking @ a picture doesn't equate to a lab test proving what % Cannabinoids it really has.
I don't trust what they claim on seed sites either, that could be the 1/1000 plant or just total bullshit.

Don't get over 4-5 foot? Ummm. Sounds perfect for.guerilla growing. Not everyone needs ten pound plants. Can I see a pic of one of your large plants? I grow outdoors to.

You keep claiming that dispensaries carry elite bud only. What ever man. I doubt you know your ass from a hole in the ground. You have no idea what they carry. Most of it sucks.
