There's a good place to start.
It's simply a method of hydroponics/soil-less medium growing. The collective is here not only to spread the info about this style, but also to collect information about our hempy grows so that through everyone's trial and error, a complete noob could read the info, and grow their own plant(s).

Az i picked up some more clones i dont know if i can handle them all i kinda got carried away. but they are all sooooo dank. Maui Wowwie, Kandy Kush, God's Gift, Lavender Kush, and Sour super silver haze diesel i think it was ssshd when i got it. Im starting all of them in 5 qt buckets and moving the other ones into the same size bucket. After 2 days of flushing they are coming back. The guy at the dispensery said that the SSSHD is really nutz picky is this true

holy shit im finaly done!!!!!... i read the entire thread, over the span of 4 days lol
i use to use coco/perlite 3/1 with lucas formula, i stoped growing for a while cuz i got tired of all the work. but i think i wana start back up so i jumped online to find a "new" overgrow edge forum lol. of all the forum sites i think this will be my new home. i like how ppl still talk about BushyOldGrower and his transpant method on here, ahh the good ol days
anyway after deciding i wanted to grow again (been 2 years since i stoped) i said fuq all that extra work, i dont want the BEST results, i want the best yeild to effort ratio lol, and so i find myself about to start up some hempy buckets, i got 2 question that were breifly mentioned in previous replies, but i would like sum more direct info
first about pot shape, i was think that a short but wide pot would be beter. cuz the water would have less a distance to have to wick, and the root less distance to travel to the res- about stability i plan to add aquarium rocks or marbles to add a lil dry weight. but does any one have experiance with the shape , stabilty aside what does the plant do beter in
i know its prolly trivial and ppl will say 'any container works" but i like to shop for "perfect containers" its fun for me looken for stuff to use in every section of the stores.i smoke some joints and make a day of it lol.

AZ i plan to use 100% perlite aswell (with aquarium rocks or marbles for weight) as i agree with u on the verm/peatmoss/coco its PH is too unpredictable. but about ur feed, i also used the lucas formula, when i was in coco i would use 1tsp bloom 1/2 tsp micro, then double that for second half of veg and tripple it for flowering(every water). but for the hempy i plan to either water feed or water water feed depnding on needs. and use the same 1 tsp boom 1/2tsp micro, double, tripple. is this about how u use the lucas formula??
also note i dont have R/O water yet (1$ a gallon at the stores here) and i plan to get a filter some time in the next year. but i have grown about 8 grows using the tap water here with lucas forula. i only need to add 1/8 of a tsp of PH down to a gallon of ferts, and the ppm of the water is around 250 out of tap acording to the yearly water reports that the city mails me. so do my measurements seem right, for lucas formula/all perlite hempy.
just as a general ofcoarse, i know depends on the variables. (i got 3x400w HPS btw)
also does anyone have any experiance with aquarium rocks? what effects do thay have on PH? i would like to use them to add weight as thay are cheap and easy to get, but im affraid the thay will mess with the PH of my otherwise all perlite hempy

xigmo -- welcome to the collective (not that I even belong here, but I digress....)
As far as medium is concerned, just don't use any more than 50% vermiculite. My recent experiments with higher concentration verm. have not been a failure, but it is just extra trouble (unless you don't want to water your plants for a week at a time and don't care if the plants don't quite "thrive" the way you are expecting them to).
I am not an expert on Lucas formula, I bought giant jugs of all 3 GH flora series (yeah I was a noob) and so I still 3+ years later still have 2 gallons+ of the green (gro), but it seems so much easier that I might just start experimenting with it. I have not done any research on it, but would think you would want the micro percentage to be higher in the grow phase (to get the N up).
From my aquarium days I believe that "aquarium rocks" are ph neutral. Just be careful that the rocks aren't just plain rocks -- limestone will cause ph to go up. I have always used silica stone in the bottom for weight myself and the plants with the stones in them always seem to be happier.

i have been sitting here for a while going through and reading everything and i am going to be trying this. i just started germing my seeds. i was going to do soil for my first grow but its time to return some pots to the nursery. so here is what i was planning.
i have 4 seeds that are Greenhouse Great White Shark
1.Start the seeds in rockwool cubes
2.Transfer ea.to a 32 oz Styrofoam cup while vegging with 2 100 watt daylight cfls
3.Tranfer ea. to a 3 gallon bucket for flowering with a 1000 watt hps.
100% perlite.
Water - Supermarket r/o
Nutes- GH Flora Nova Grow(7-4-10) and Bloom(4-8-7)
How Does this Sound ?

Wow, what a great thread I've stumbled on! It's a bit daunting to get through over 100 pages of thread, so I hope you guys will be patient with my noob questions that have probably been asked and answered b4 (I read 20+ pages but couldn't make my way through the entire thing, lol).
Okay, so, prior to placing my clones into the perlite for the first time, do I add nutes to the medium, or just water for the first few days/week?
Also, there is a bit of a discrepency between start up water cycles. Some state that you should only water 1 time your first week, others say it's best to water, water, feed every 2-3 days right from the start. Is there an agreed upon consensus on this yet?
Do I ever have to remove the plant and empty/clean the rez completely or does the simple act of watering it flush it enough?
It seems that using the smallest rockwool cubes possible to root your clones would be best for initial transfer to the hempy pot, but what if my clones are already rooted in 4" cubes?
Should I start in 44oz cups and transfer to 1g and then 2g buckets for plants that are supposed to grow to 2-2.5ft, or can I just start right off with 2g buckets? (LAZY STONER)
Will a simple tarp placed under the buckets be enough to hold and evaporate the spillage (2x600w bulbs) or should I take more precautions, i.e. individual spill plates etc.
Will 2x600w lights be sufficient for 32 plants spaced out on 2, 5'x5' tables (16 plants per table)?

just read the whole thread and the biggest problem I can see is people trying to modify the hempy bucket or using MG perlite and tap water.
I just transplanted a white widow from dirt to a hempy to see if it takes.I will be converting my grow over to hempy but I have to many in dirt to do them all.

Beginning flowing on my first hempy. Still can't believe the results.
This is what I'm doing at the moment since I only have one plant going. I sit the hempy bucket in one of the bucket belonging to my ebb and grow system and allow the ebb and flow replace the water in the hempy bucket. Things look pretty good so far. Sour Diesel is getting some pistils.

Doesn't look like AZ or LBJ check this thread anymore, or maybe they are just sick of answering questions after 100 pages of them, lol. But, I've done a LOT of reading up on this subject and plan on doing my first hempy grow in a couple weeks myself. Anyway, I will try to address a few of your Qs based on what I've read and know from growing with other hydro methods. No nutes for at least the first week. Lightly water your clones at first. Add a low dose of nutes 200-300ppm after about 7-10 days. Water/feed cycles vary, I can't answer this question yet as I will have to play around with it myself to find what works. You don't have to remove the plant from its pot, that will stress it out. Start off in 32-44oz cups and bog them over to 1 or 2g pots when the roots require more space. I've heard that by starting in small pots speeds up the initial growth process. Basically the faster the tap root gets to the res, the faster the growth. Since you are starting from clones, you can probably just start in 1g buckets and leave em there. Use individual spill plates, that way you can check the ph after watering. If you have 2, 600w lights you should use ONE 8x4 table rather than splitting them up into two 5x5 tables. 32 1g buckets will fit on an 8x4 table perfectly, and your lighting will be more even and efficient this way. Maybe some of the experts can chime in and expand on what I've said or tell me if I'm wrong about anything. Good luck!

yup as lumberjac mentioned we have been attending a major party...i have been getting ready for it for a couple weeks so have been real pre-occupied..i see up there someone suggest using 2 600 over a 4x8 but unless you plan on using some type of light rail/mover your gonna have alot of place with low light..imo if using them without a track try them over a single 5x5....if using clones i have been dabling with using nutes even while rooting to promote faster stronger growth...you dont need to pre-fert the perlite but if using clones i would feed em a day or 2 after....peace az

the question about pot shape.... while yes most anything can be used as a hempy bucket, you gotta think about this... short and wide means more medium area exposed = faster evaporation... you're pots will dry out faster... not a problem if you don't see it as such... also... shorter wider buckets means you can't fit as many in the area together if you're doing something high density
