Sup Guys. Been growing for little more than a year now. I have about 6 complete harvests under my belt. Now I didn't say successful harvests because in my opinion they were all okay. And I'm find with okay cause I'm patient and understand this is a process. But I'm Gaining no process if I dont figure out whats going on during flower. So here I am.

Set up:
Tent:4x4x7
Light:600 Watt hps
Exhaust:710 cfm Hyper fan

Grow:
5+ ft Afghan Kush about 4 wks in flower
Fox Farm Ocean Forest
PH'd tap water to 6.5 with ph tester. PH meter broke.
She only had water for the 2 months of her life.

Problem:
She Looking real frosty and smells great. even the colas are starting to form.
But all the fan leaves on the bottom half of the plant is yellowing and dying off.
I assume its time to feed her so I have big bloom and tiger bloom for her.
I tried feeding her less than half strength, shes still doing the same thing.
any suggetions? this happens all the time during flower.
Thanks

You got an afghan kush 5ft in 4 weeks? What light?
Exactly what does your feed schedule look like in veg, transition and flower?
Do the problems seem to pop up a few weeks into flower?
Pics?

Do either of the ferts you mentioned have any nitrogen in them? Plants need it in flower too.

Need more pictures. But it sounds like you need more N. The stretch eats up a lot of n, and I'm willing to bet your problems start during or after its stretching period.

Makes alot of sense. You know what, their schedule do require you to use the grow big for the first few weeks in flower.
I dont have the grow big, could i use this Maxi Grow i got from General hydro.
10-5-14?
Thanks guys

well, since you have two parts of a three part system, why not go buy Grow Big? THEN, follow the feed schedule....and get a calmag supplement while you are there.

That will work, try starting slow and see if you get a positive feedback.

I had this same thing when I was using Earth Juice. Not sure that it's really a problem, but I would say it's a nitrogen thing. The plant is drawing nutrients in from the leaves to feed the buds. I was getting decent harvests despite this, but yeah, some nutes have very little or no N. You could pot up and amend the soil with some compost or manure one week prior to flowering to boost the N in the soil.

Once the leaves have yellowed, they won't green up again when you add N, but it might slow further yellowing. I've heard and read about really limiting the amount of N they get when in flower though, so you should read up on it.

I use Foxfarm soil regularly and I suggest that anyone who uses it watch out for calcium deficiencies. It doesn't always happen with cannabis, but it does happen from time to time. Whatever you do don't grow a tomato plant in Foxfarm soil unless you mix in some lime at the time of planting. You will get major blossom rot because of the low levels of calcium in that soil.

You dont use tap? A few types of ff soils, all of them are built differently, ocean forest taking the lead in mag def lol

The one thing that sticks out to me is your light is too high. Always try to keep it as close as possible and with a vented hood and 700+ CFM you should be able to keep the light about 9 inches above the plants.

For an afghan kush mix, they look kinda stretched. You can also use something to prop up the smaller plants to get them closer to the light.

Don't know what your environmental swings are but its best to ke it under 75 when the lights are on and not too much colder than 60-65 at night. I had a hard time keeping a smaller tent like that cool when I first started out a long time ago. One problem I had that slowed growth was humidity was so low due to winter and extreme ventilation. Could not get humidity above 20% and it would stress the plants out. Lol

Lower the light and try to use a full line. I mean base nutrients not additives. Get good at that first and make sure you use a good bulb and change them out every other grow. Hortilux bulbs are amazing and really did show a big improvement over discount bulbs when I switched many years ago.

And I will stress this one point because it really is a big factor in growing. ENVIROMENTAL CONTROL is paramount to maximizing your yields. Yeah nutrients and some additives help but mean very little when you have extremes in temp or humidity.
Yeah they are weeds and can take extreme weather conditions just won't have the output as a consequence.

To sum up my rant I would say lack of light for the lower branching mixed with the natural yellowing that may be coming early due to indica and a lack of nitrogen during the stretch. Too much N is what I see most often and the plants look hunter green which IMO is just as bad as too little N. If you want to just add some N get some guano,(bat shit) and not the high P kind. It's loaded with N and should give a little boost during the stretch for you while keeping with the semi organic soil style grow. If you really want to have a little fun I suggest coco grow. You may need to be more attentive but the results are fun and worth it.
