Grow area way too hot (90+ degrees)

I have been trying to grow medically in closet. It's 3x3x8, I have a 600w MH bulb in now and it's way too hot. I have a fan, but it's too hot to make a difference. I'd there a small AC I could put in the grow room that would bring the temp down 15-20 degrees?

An air cooled hood instead of using an open hood will help get hot air out, but you will need some kind of hole to get the ducting out of your closet. There is portable ac units, but they can be a pain in the butt and not efficient at all. They also need a place to vent out, so you would have to cut another hole in the wall or your door. You could cut one hole and run two lines of ducting from your closet to a Y splitter to leave your room as a single line of ducting instead of two. If you put in an AC, your humidity will rise slightly. Do you have a dehumidifier to control any spikes in humidity? The size of your room is very small, so to put an ac unit, dehumidifier, fans, light, plants....it's gonna be as tight as a virgins butthole. In my opinion if you are going to grow in a closet, I would consider a different light. Possibly a LED, LEC or even a CFL would work nicely. I feel like you are going to be battling heat your entire grow and a change in light could help alleviate a lot of the issues mentioned. I hope this helps! Happy growing! :bigjoint:

Well. My .2c
Adding an AC will dump more heat in the room...unless it's exhausted outside.

For $400 you could get a timber grow light of 4 cxb 3590 at 200 watts. 56% efficient LEDs. That would make your temps very manageable. And lower electricity usage.

Otherwise use a 400w hid light.

$500 you could get 5 cxb 3590 and $600 6 cxb 3590

Get a cooled hood or cooltube + an inline fan and some ducting.

fwiw,
I use 600 + cooltubes/hoods and a small ac for the really really hot days. 99% of the time the cooled hood is enough. Although this summer has been SHIT @ heat...

600w claimed led like shit Mars or most others is about 200w of 20% efficient LEDs. So that's worthless. Any led that reports its wattage as hid equal is a scam. Like all 3-5 w grow lights out there
Who said that was talking about Marshydro mate? Oh right because thats THE ONLY 600w LED out there. There couldn't possibly be more than one brand of LED's on the market. I mean why would there be more than one brand right? Get that hps bulb out of your mouth. LED's work just fine thank you very much.

Well I can't make a hole in this closet (in an apartment), so I guess I may just be screwed unless I spend another $500- $600 on an LED. I can at least try the portable AC route or maybe even a DIY AC

6 inch inline (extract)
speed controller
set it too 65

It will keep pulling out the air to it it hits that temperature.

if you had an inline fan pulling in cooler air at the bottom even better

You can vent a cooled hood anywhere, best bet is into another room or out the chimney / furnace / dryer vent or something. But even if its just out of the closet or away from the plants a cooled hood will still run cooler than a bare bulb. From there it's pretty simple to just toss in a cheap window ac unit.

I put a large cat door in a closet door in one place I was renting for duct venting lol. If I had to shut things down quickly I could pull the duct outta the cat door and the flap would close. When I left I painted the closet and replaced the cat door with a 6" vent and told landlord the closet had fungus/moisture issues and you're welcome for fixing it.

And for the record LED's put off heat too. Nothing like a bare bulb 600w HID though, but they can be similar to a 600w in a decent cooled hood + exhaust system.

What..... Clearly you're speaking in terms of shitty Mars type LEDs because you make a blank statement of 600w which its only shit companies that market this way. If you were speaking about quality LEDs then 600w in a 3x3 of Cree cxb 3590 would be 1464 PPFD and that's way overkill as the standard is 750 for LEDs. So clearly you're only referencing shitty led companies. They may not be named Mars but 98% are made in the same place and are shit.

If I were you and the closet is your only space to grow, purchase a dummy door. Measure your door frame and go to home depot to pick up a cheap new door. Then any modifications you need to do, you would be doing it on your dummy door. You could even have a hole at the bottom (intake) and a hole leaving out the top (exhaust) or w/e your heart desires.

I may just have to get rid of my mh/hid set up and get some leds. I let my mh light run on the minimum setting and my temps peaked at 106 in 3 hours

You'll still have to vent the ac outside otherwise it will just throw heat ij your bedroom.

A decent COB led setup is badass, but it will cost a lot more than a cooled hood or tube.

106? And that guy wants you to keep using that HPS/MH setup mate? That is just dangerous. He'd rather you have no weed and be stressed out (or whatever you need it for) than grow with LED's mate. And for the record about cobs, they put out a lot of green light which the plants don't use. It's like making a whole bunch of food for your kids and they can't eat it. The food being the light and your kids being the plants.

Clearly you've never used HID anything. And I'm not getting into COB vs blurple lol.

Small enclosed space + HID = Pretty much need a cooled hood/tube+ventilation system.
Without them one of my spaces hit 110+ during a test run.

HID's make heat, your choices are, manage the heat or get a different lighting system.

Listen mate and this is gonna be my last post cause I was talking to the OP and not you.
1. COB's are inefficient as hell but people don't want to buy a simple meter to see that so whatever.
2.Not everyone has the time or space to cut holes in their wall and run AC's in their closets.
3. Why would you ever want to have to use all that stuff to grow some plants anyway? I'd rather buy weed if I needed to do all of that.
4. No thanks I'll take a different and arguably better lighting system where all I need to do is blow a fan at my lights if it gets to hot in my closet.

I put one intake to the room on the central AC. Solved it with one bit of 6 in flex, hot air rising helps alot unless the top is airtight.
