lol damn nuisance animals. I am constantly at war with raccoons, but living in the city there ain't a whole lot i can do. I had to build a chicken wire/ PVC greenhouse as my final line of defense, and i also thought about electrifying it as well. You got any pics coming Duago? i always like to see whats happening north of me. As i am done with the city, i am gonna get the fuck out of dodge as soon as possible.

2x 15gal Blue Ripper's, outdoor for 6 weeks now and happy gals. Just finished the last FIM on all tops so they recover before they start pre-flowering in the next couple of weeks. Should be a nice haul, no signs of bugs or PM bothering them so far. it's been perfect weather here for this type of grow, not a lot of rain this season so glad I have them close by to keep them watered but tons of sun and heat :)

I went back there today to see all my pots knocked over except the budding plant.. not sure what did that. Possibly a bear looking for grubs under rocks and pots

Anyway two more snapped off now.. thinking this year won't yeild that much now as my two best are much smaller and probably shocked now..

I harvested a couple buds from the one in flower but going to give the rest more time to mature I just wanted to be able to have my first harvest ever bc next time I go back I don't know what could have fucked with them you know
So yea my first ever harvest XD I only took off four buds and they're pinned to a fan rack.

Next year im thinking I'll have cages around the plants and if I have my own place which I probably will cus I'm working full-time now I may try indoors too.. more I have to control but less threats that i cant control like wildlife and wind.. anyone tried growing in an apartment?

Hello Rollituppers‎

First post in the forum after lurking for a while. Figured I should finally introduce myself and my little potted indica girl. I thought about posting a new thread or a grow journal but posting in this thread seemed appropriate as I'm in Toronto.

A little background first: I'm a long time smoker...often but not heavy. I grew 12 plants outdoor in two plots about 15 years ago and was getting some really nice results. Then after I had decided to give them one more week before harvesting, I came back to find them ALL gone. Nothing but stumps. The greedy bastards didn't even leave me a bud. Needless to say that experience soured me on growing...until this year.

I'm a bit of a gardening nut. From vegetables to flowers to succulents, I spend most of the non-snow months outside getting my hands dirty. This year I was inspired by my neighbour who grew two really nice little girls last year without really doing anything the 'right' way. So I thought I'd grow one plant just for the fun and experience.

My friend at work sourced out 4 clones for me since I didn't want to deal with sexing the lone plant I was going to grow. I picked the strongest and healthiest plant and then found adoptive homes for the remaining three.

I don't know what strain she is yet other than some kind of Indica. He said he'll find out for me and I'll update when I know.

I used worm castings, compost, native soil, perlite, mycorrhizae, and some peat moss for the soil mix. I used (gasp!) miracle gro to get them going since it is loaded with N and my soil tests showed a bit of a deficiency. I'm now off the chemicals and have been supplying her with hen manure, aerated worm tea, and some kelp. Still figuring out what to feed her when she starts to flower. I am thinking prob first week of August here so I have a bit of time. Suggestions welcome.‎

I got the clones on may 28 and transplanted them up to about 1 litre pots on June 3. I then moved her into her permanent home on June 21 which is a large pot that once held a small tree. Not sure in terms of volume, but it's about 18" diameter, tapers slightly towards the base, and ‎is 14" tall. What is that, 10 gallons? 15 maybe?‎ I've added about an inch or so of wood chip mulch on top of the soil.
As for training and pruning, I FIM'd a few times around 2nd week of June and then stressed the stem a bit close to end of June. Other than that I've just been trimming the lowest leaves (mostly to keep her looking sexy).

She's now growing like crazy and is as of right now about 32" tall and about 36" at her widest. She's a really dense plant and super healthy (I think). The leaves are a deep green with what seems to be an almost blueish tinge around the edges.

One of my main concerns right now is that she is parked in the corner of the yard that gets the most sun (almost 12 hours right now) but is also near my neighbours security light which stays on all night. I am sure that will have a major effect on her willingness to produce big buds if I don't move her. The spot I'm thinking of is dark enough at night but also gets at least a few hours less sun. Unless someone has other ideas, I'm going to go with the lesser of two evils and move her there in 2 weeks.

Here are pictures with dates to show progress. The most recent one was taken on Wednesday morning.

Thanks for reading this long-ass post. I'd love any and all feedback and suggestions.

Oh and btw, her name is Liz :)

Here's an update from this morning. She's 32" tall a nd about about 42" at her widest.

I gave her a clockwise turn of prob 5-10 degrees. I think I'll start doing this daily to balance out the light all around her. Is there a conventional wisdom when it comes to rotating container plants outdoors? Only makes sense to me.

Here we do get burrow worms and bud rott . Go to keep a close eye on our babies. Hello from Montréal Québec Canada
I started early this year (March) indoor under 400 watts MH. Transition meaning reduce light on about 15 mins each week till about June 13 then they all went out safe and smooth. Had a couple of bleeched leaves but no harm. Now I have 2 Purple Pineberry 2 FrisianDew 2 FrisianDew Clones (all females) & 2 Purple Tea (unknown). Massive plants Topped Supercropped Lst & Lollipoped. Organic is the way and compost teas are the key. I run Nature's Nectar NPK CaMg+ and some more stuff. The sun really shows alot of free Love. Sorry to jump on ypur thread but love to share thoughts and experiences with the fellow Canadians

How's that clay pot treating you... I've heard they aren't so good for our girls...

So far, so good! I do believe that, from a yield-maximization standpoint, an air pot or equivalent would be a better choice. Roots get oxygen‎, better drainage, and less root binding. Having said that, I see a lot of people growing in black plastic and I can't see the advantage of that over what I'm using - especially with the risk of frying the roots.‎
I'd be curious to see an experiment where multiple plants of the same strain were grown in various types of pots with the only variable being the containers' construction. My guess is that the yield difference would be within 10% between my pot and a comparable air pot (which is an opinion based only on a hunch and a lot of gardening). Taste and potency are a little more subjective and harder to measure, but I'm guessing they would be negligibly different.
I decided to go with this container because my goals in growing this girl are also ornamentally based . This is a plant in my garden and I spend too much time trimming, planning, mulching, edging, mowing etc to put something there that doesn't fit in. Call me shallow, but looks are important here! It's a compromise I can live with.
And lastly, I believe that for discretionary purposes, a pot plant in a nice pot looks a wee bit less like a pot plant at first glance.
Cheers‎

I grew them in the ground for years but I'm done with that until it becomes legal. Growing illegally in a sub-division and short growing season, last few years I'm liking the pots for being able to move them if needed A couple of years back I had to finish them in my garage because of weather, couldn't have done that if I had them in the ground. It's not a bad option.
My thinking exactly. Being mobile has some big advantages. You and I will be laughing it up as our buds stay dry in the garage while the earthbound plants are getting soaked in those inevitable September rains.

Well if you look at the picture with 8 plants I've got all on same feedings and foliar and 1 purple pine berry in a 20 G smart pot and 1 in a 16" 35Liter/19.2 G Hercules Gro Pro Root Master Pot. Also Frisian Dew 1 in each. I have 1 purple tea in a Hercules and the other in a regular Rona black pot and extra holes but I added stones on the bottom to see the difference. I'll post pictures soon and keep in mind they are all topped super cropped lsted and lollipoped

Definitely gives some flexibility, the larger pots (15gal this year) are heavy when wet but manageable before watering if I need to move them. This season is perfect in southern Ontario so far but you never know what September brings. Wishing everyone good luck, looking good in here so far :)

Week 7 1/2 outdoor, training is done now, starting to split the tops from the FIM's and will ride them out. ~ 2 weeks before they start pre-flower. Height is maintaining low as wanted but they keep spreading out nicely, should be a good haul. Thumbnail shows the stalk, nice and strong root system built up, should carry them through well.

GroErr... plants are looking great with some thick stalks.

Wondering how you know that it's 2 weeks until preflower? Is that a guess or have you grown this strain before? I'm growing a Kush in Toronto and my guess was about the same - first week august. Thx
