basically same rules
veg = high color temps 3500-6500K
bloom = low color temps = 2700-4000K
monochromatic LEDS ("monos") are useful as well

popular colors:
630,660, 730nm = bloom
430-465 nm = grow

10-40% blue generally depending if bloom or veg

the modern most efficient is "COB" (chip on board), where you need chip, heatsink, driver

Get yourself an Eye Hortilux Blue MH for veg and Flower or a Super HPS for flower and don't look back
The blue will give a very slight decrease in yield for flowering but will give the best quality imaginable

Is super the make for super hps or? And yeah your 2nd person to recommend the eye hortilux. Didn't realize you could flower under MH. If I had another light I'd use both during flower but since I don't I'll stick to hps for flower. I usually add a few CFL's during flower too for little extra light in those hard to reach places

Most MH don't give the best Flowering results but this one will

I'm just wondering what companies are known for producing good bulbs for the money? By the way looking for Metal Halide (MH)and High Pressure Sodium(HPS) bulbs. Also curios what experienced growers think about how often you should be replacing your bulbs when used in an average way like 18/6 and 12/12. I know some Autoflower growers obviously have there lights on more throughout a grow. Thanks in advance for your replies.

these are what i use and i have tried them all.these hps have more blue spectrum than most and are alsdo good for veg so you would just need the one bulb.i replace all my bulbs every 6 months but you can run these longer.@ 6 months they still have the same lumen output as a new eye hort does(the 600w) so im sure the 400 is just as good.

I used to flower under MH back in my old grow box, many an awesome crop with a 400 watter bulb,,, in fack my buds were thicker and heavier with my MH than my new cobs, but then again the bulb was twice the watts,,
I usually always steer people towards bulbs if they dont mind changing them between crops and dont mind the extra electricity, bulbs cost less up front and provide outstanding results,,,
if i was doing it again, i would just buy the same cheapy bulbs that came with your light the first time,, they are pretty cheap on ebay,,

:edit: if you ever look at led, do not look at the cheapy junk like mars hydro, or blurple lights, complete waste of time, stay with your 400 watter long before that junk,, cobs are the only way right now in led, but you would spend a shit ton of money on it, so again bulbs are probably the better way, its a fine line around here, and many a long thread on it, but most of the led guys will tell people to stay with the bulbs first,

bro i been using digilux since the day they came out.i run 12kw op and sometimes when i do my light order and i cant get all digilux i will order other shit like eye hort or ushio.i can say for certain those lamps are not as bright.do not have as much blue in them(hps) and do not hold lumen # nearly as long(measured with a light meter) . more than 5 years i been using them.
and i can also say the highest failure ratio i have ever seen on any brand is def by far ushio.i use multiple brand digital ballast and ushio is not picky about which one it blows on lol

Other than that i have had two phantom digi ballast go down and the site i linked sent me new nanolux as a replacement, which i love.i have a bunch of lumitecs and those are all good.love the nanos because they all have a time delay and fire up at random so it helps with power draw at startup

What did you pay for each? Found eye Hort. For like $70 on Amazon still looking for the Phillips. Are all metal halides ceramic? Or does that make it better in some way? I usually start veg with my 4ft T5 then switch to MH later on to save some electricity so I may be able to use it for 1 more grow. Didn't realize bulbs were gonna be so expensive
