Dark purple stems.

So the top stems of my plant are starting to go quite purple on the top half, but are still green underneath. Is this just the strain, or something to do with deficiency / heat / light?

There are also some purple bits in the new growth where the budsites will be...what's that all about?

dude it could be the strain...as much as i hate to agree with squats to pee...more likely its either a nitrogen or phos.deficiency.nothing to worry about...

Thanks. I have no idea what the strain is...I found some seeds in a bag of weed I bought a while ago, and thought I'd give growing a try. I think it's turned out really well so far!

Purple stems are USUALLY a sign of Magnesium deficiency..
Get to a store, buy some Epsom salts, mix 3/4 teaspoon to 1 litre of water,Water plants.

Purple tinges etc are also characterristics of some strains, but most peoples purpling worries tend to be Mg def.

If the Mg doesnt get rid of the purple, then try upping the Phos dose..
Phos Def often shows with purpling of the stems,leaf stems and veins, and will often also display signs of stunted growth...
Plants with a Phos Def also have smaller leaves that are dark green, that often get necrotic patches..
Try using a nutrient with a higher P number in the NPK ratio

why ignore something that will possibly effect your plants health/size/yield/potency, esp when it is soooo easily remedied?
DEath would all depend on how much mg the plant needed, some strains love the stuff a lil too much) the overall levels of other available nutes, ph...I'd say its unlikely to die quickly, but death could ensue in severe cases.

thats funny ive been growing for years and have never seen a mg deficient plant express red stems...usually mg def. is noted by an upward curl...later if not corrected membranes in the leaves yellow and then go necrotic before dropping...couldnt hurt to give her some ebsom salts though since mg is essential to the absorbtion of light energy and helps the plant process nutrients...

upon second examination i noticed a slight cupping and downward curl in your leaveswhich could signify a little p.h. problem.if the p.h. is off,your plant wont utillize nutrients propperly...hope this helps.good luck...

I'm going to get a PH test today, thanks.

How do you go about correcting the PH? I don't think vinegar or bicarb of soda would be good for a plant!

theres several ways of doin it, there's a bunch of tutorials on here in the faq too.
raising the ph in soil is easily done with dolomite lime, cant remember the technque for lowering it, but as i said, its on here, search the faqs.

Frosty, could you take a look at my grow thread (link in my sig) and let me know if you think this is a Mg deficiency, please?

I'm guessing it's a phosphorus deficiency, because the Scott's Potting Soil I'm using is 7-1-3...do you think that's a little harsh for a plant that just turned 21 days old today?
