A little trichome help?

Great stuff...

One thing I noticed...

OP talked about clear/amber trichomes... which made me confused a bit... I know pistils go from clear to amber... trichomes go from clear to cloudy. in both cases there's a level of change people are looking for to harvest, but the difference you're looking for are different if you're judging from pistils or if you are judging from trichomes... i.e.: using the pistil method we might harvest a plant that appears to have around 70% amber pistils... but if we look at the trichomes on that plant we may see >50% are pretty clear, and if we were using the trichome method we would wait to harvest a week or two.

Sorry if I'm just confused by the word usage.

As to the point... Different levels of maturity don't only contribute to potency, but also to effect, as someone noted: the younger you harvest your buds the more head high and zippy, and it will usually not last quite as long. For a med patient I would suggest waiting longer... since most of the effects we're looking for are kind of sedative, which is what you get in more mature buds.

Off topic a bit, but this is by far the best forum I've come across on the web - weed related or not.

It's very refreshing to come across such a helpful, kind, and knowledgeable user base!

Just remember that when you come across trolls and jerks as well, of which there are also plenty here... but yeah... this is certainly one of the best/most useful forums I've come across as well :)

Yields taboo? Everyone I know who describes their ops always talk yields... that's the bottom line on everything we do... I haven't experienced this at all yet. Maybe taboo to guess at yields, cuz it's really guessing... but people guesstimate (you know, make an educated guess based on experience ;-)) quite often too.

It feels very taboo to talk about low yields.

Like you I am growing for myself (well in your case mom too) so getting any plant to produce huge mounts is not my concern. I save tons of money by getting even a small harvest vs buying it at the shop ($200/OZ) or even direct ($100-$150). My current grow, which is a bit of an experiment on what I can get indoors where I live with minimal input, features six plants which (I guesstimate) are carrying upwards of a half oz each (so lets say 3 oz total) and only cost me $200 in time/reusable materials (lights, planters, etc) and probably even including electricity... already saving me $200-$400... that's a big win in my book, and since my returns will only get higher... well you get the point.

If this was my livelihood... that'd be another story... kind of, I'm "lazy" so there's a finite amount of work vs return I am willing to do (even when more work = proportionally bigger returns). After all, in a "regular" job I could work overtime all the time for more money (more hours plus time and a half)... but I like to do other things, so I balance things out.

Fair enough with the trolls and jerks (they always exist in any population), but as of yet I've yet to meet any of them .. All the better if I never do!

Where I am, it's 300/oz and 3000/lb ... It's all black market since my state isn't with the times yet. I'm hoping to eventually have enough to help many others going through situations like my mother's, but one step at a time.

Good luck with your experiment! Hopefully it keeps you in relatively cheap smoke!

Couldn't sleep so I took a few more pictures (it really sucks to be so hush hush about the grow, but safety first).

Definitely noticed that my tie job on a few of the clones needs some work, a lot of them are falling over due to bud weight. Not the worst problem to have, but I'm dreading bud rot

My current mantra is "just a few more weeks" lol the wait is killing me

For me it may be worse: New house, first grow... and I'm all out of buds... looking at my plants I just CANNOT stomach the idea of going out and spending another $35 for an eight at the shop or hassle with "black market" lazy stoner can't keep an appointment types for a better deal. I've been getting by with bit of sampling... keeps the edge off both not having any smoke, and just being anxious as to how these will turn out. So far I am happy... Nothing like your beauties, but for a half assed grow promising idk 3 oz (guesstimate of current buds in dry weight... I'd say conservative too... and I hope that they will do more in the next two weeks) I'm stoked. It should see me to next harvest (working on going perpetual :)... already vegging my next batch, just started too late for it to work out just right).

I always harvest when I start to see about 10% amber trichs and everything else is cloudy. This typcially happens for me (with a 50/50 strain) around 9-10 weeks after the flip. Most of the pistols are brown and shrivelled but there are some buds with secondary pistil growth coming in that are still white. I use one of those pocket microscopes for this. The loupe isn't enough for my old eyes. I do use the loupe when trying to sex.

I'm right on the cusp of perpetual. My seedlings took off like rockets, my ww clones are bushy little girls, but the raspberry cough clone I took is looking a bit under the weather. I think for the next batch going into veg, I'm just going to pop the rest of the RC seeds .. Not a big fan of the strain, and like I said it doesn't take too well to cloning
