Room temperature vs canopy temperature

So what is the average difference between the two for you guys? What's acceptable?

My room temp has been staying around 78°-82° and my canopy temperature can get to the high 80s pretty easily. I have oscillating fans going to help.

When people talk about max temps in rooms are they speaking of canopy temp or room temperature?

I didn't realize there was such a difference until I walked in the room the other day and it felt very comfortable but the thermometer said it was 86°. It also is hanging right about 6 inches above canopy height. So i was scratching my head. So i bought another of the same digital thermometers and hung it away from the canopy and it read 77°.

Things look good im just trying to avoid airy buds.

Several schools of thought on this!

I like higher canopies and and accepted ambients

I use several therms and always have a laser therm in the grow.

I like my canopy around 88-91 - ambient around 75-78. Measuring at the mid point (plant) is around 73-5 and the pot around 68....
Don't get "loose" buds....

The "loose" buds can come from cold too!

no i did not lose yield . i just had to many lights going no way a ac unit would keep it cool . every thing the same but a lot more and could not keep it cool ac ran full blast with lights . same yields as average . still top notch . so my opinion is can flower up to 95 i have . it was hot as fuck i did have a fan per light blowing directly onto the plants . i run my room at about 80 to 83 . average with 45 % humidity a shit load of fans . i did them at 75f before did not notice any difference . well if your talking about making them change color in late flower yes have to get it about 60 at night . but not during the day . really brings out the colors .

I've run them at a shit ton of temps on a commercial scale @RM3 has seen the magic that happens with lower temps as well there's a big difference 71-73° day 61-63° night I promise you'll never change back and you'll never deal with real bug issues either as they thrive in warmer temps and only survive in lower temps. Cooler root zone always a plus and density goes up a lot IMO

Yeppers 72 at 33% rh is da zone but I run 89~91 canopy temp same as Dr Who

Think bout how it feels to stand in the sun when it is in the 70's outside 8)

I'm gonna get temp gun and see what leaf temp is my sentinel says canopy at 75°-77° room at 71°-73°. it feels like a beautiful fall Colorado day

I do have my sentinel shielded from direct sun light tho so there is no radient heat it can pick up so very well could be mid 80's with direct light on it

i need to do a side by side or a different room . one room cool in the 70 other hot 80 to 85 . the plants are filling a 7 gallon pot with roots in the 85 range . the ground may be a bit cooler .

I’m growing in a closet under t5 transitioning to led when I transplant. My plants are in 5 gallons and my room has an inkbird set to heat and humidify
Daytime canopy high 79 degrees f and my soil level hygrometer shows 78.
this all consistently happened after putting in an efficient exhaust.
my inkbird kicks on a 750 watt heater in the room the closet is outside of and goes until it hits 79 at canopy then shuts down.

I am concerned with 78 degrees at my container level and I want to do anything I can to mitigate that fast.

According to my own scientific Theory ,
things grow faster in higher heat , chemical reactions happen faster. I tend to think higher temps can dry out buds and can cause heat stess.
That being said I like to keep mine in the low 70’s , perhaps quality over quantity, just depends what your going for.

Room temp 45-50F, veg tent 2x4x4' (24/0) 400W MH 78F, flower tent 4x4x6.5' 1000W HPS 78F.

I have an inline fan/filter at the top of my flower tent which exhausts out through my wood burning chimney. I have a 6" duct through my veg lamp into an intake at the bottom of the flower tent. The filter pulls fresh air, but also the heated air from the veg tent through the flower tent. This keeps the flower tent warm (64-67F) at lights off.

room temp vs canopy temp vs leaf temp

get a precise laser temp gun and read the leaf temperature .. to calculate that vpd properly
I’m going to Home Depot after work for thermal gun. ive yet to understand vpd and where I should be with it now at week 5 veg...

Does it sound concerning at 79 canopy 77-78 root zone ambient...? If so how do I mitigate this?
my closet recycled air in mybedroom outside my closet my exhaust fan is up high on closet door and overrated for my space. Ikeep my room outside of closet at 75-76 degrees to influence my canopy to 78-79 but my container temp zone is only a couple degreesfrom my canopy temp my lights are probably24-36 inches to the bottom of containers.

buggin a little. 77 is warm
