you make a good point ill bet the difference in a diffuser vs still air vs air blowing on front of LES is substantial. it has to go somewhere.... heat that comes out the front of the LES does not need to be conducted through the heatsink.

Any US retailers for CLU048-1812 4000K 80CRI?

I am only seeing the 35000K with one of our vendors and digikey can suck it for the price they want lol..........

Very helpful and show a keen interest in the application. She said that Citizen are looking to specifically get into horticultural lighting.
All that said I literally just ordered mine from robincnn and hour ago even though I'm in the UK. The cost of knowing who I'm dealing with was very very little.

Yes Citizen was in develope for a horticulture led cob, I dont know why but they stopped everything about it. Somebody here on the forum posted a pdf of it and it was looking insane. Too bad japanse dont like weed.

I'm about to buy 24 clu048 1212 353. Are the cree cxb 3590 brighter or last longer than the CLUs. Clu cost-300$ Cxb cost-700. Will my buds be bigger,denser, or more frosty if I spend this extra 400$? Me personally, I don't think so but I will wait to see what u guys think first. Gonna be pushing them at 1400Ma. I'm just wanting to get the biggest most dense nugs possible

@Vonkins Did you get it sorted out? I was thinking the HLG240H-C1400B would be best for running 4 1212's at 50W each, gives you a large margin for reliability of the driver....

@JorgeGonzales how's the cheap and cheerful array running? Good results? Are you happy with those cheap Mechatronix 9980 heatsinks, everything holding together?

Another thought: what do you think of running four 1212's on an HLG-185C-1400B, dimmed to run at about 1050mA?

Primarily, the difference is in the number of tiny diodes in each series and the number of individual parallel series. In this situation 18 tiny diodes in a series versus 12 and 18 parallel series verus 12. Less technically speaking 1818 is a newer model and depending on CCT and CRI you buy they might put out more lumens per watt.

Also, The 1818 model needs more forward voltage, to turn on, than the 1212. (52vf versus 34.6vf)

That sounds awesome! . I already purchased 12 6500k 1212s for vegging. I'm just so back and forth on which cobs to use for flower. The CLUs are so cheap but I know the CXBS perform great. I'm torn between spending 300$ for CLUs or 800$+ for the CXBs. I'm not a cheap person but damn, what a price difference. Running the CLUS at 1400 ma has gotta be close to the lumen output of the CXBs. Just my guess but I'm sure I'm wrong

here's another option: CLU048-1812. Again, a 50V chip, but $19.00 with the cob holder from Northerngrowlights.com is a hell of a deal I think.

From what I understand 1818 has more diodes which means more lumens. 1818s are priced around 25$. Sound great to me. I would like to see an 1818 grow compared to 3590 side by side. To see exactly how much better the 3590s are. I'm trying to get the largest yield possible out of 20 or 24 cobs. Should I run them at 1400ma or 1080? I was thinking 1400ma because I've read the citizens handle being pushed hard very well. I'm such a freaking ignorant newb when it comes to these cobs. If I do push them at 1400ma what are the negatives other than heat and cob life. I plan on handling the heat with 2 120 or 140mm fans on the back of each heatsink. What do u guys think? Damn I really do want the cree but like I said I would love to see a comparison

Use the above, it's basically a calculator that will give you an easy to reference guide on how much citizen cobs can produce given specific ma/amps

accordingly, sixteen 1212's at 1080mA (37W) would produce about 90,000 lumens, at about 600W+.
Incidentally, the EYE Hortilux 600W SE HPS :idea: is rated 88,000 initial lumens, but there you've got significant reflector losses and of course different spectral quality, so I wonder how the PAR readings would compare, respectively.
