some Dr's charge for all kinds of paperwork/forms. it seems they charge a premium for cannabis though....too much in my opinion but what can you do? complain to them and they might not sign and kick you out...then what can you do?
we looked for over 2 years to find a cannabis friendly Dr so we will pay their fee...sadly. not having money to begin with and having to scrape together their fee is tough and sucks but the alternative is worse and more expensive

$150 is perfectly reasonable. I'm a health care professional and have worked in a drs office. These cannabis drs will need to hire people for administrative work.
This plus 175 @ year to renew is perfectly reasonable.
You have got to remember most of these cannabis clinics, these drs are putting themselves up as martyrs. Most drs view them as quacks.
Also if i applied for compassionate pricing I could get it cheaper.
But like ive said i work on a drs office. And unless you have you have no fucking idea how busy most family drs are drowning in administrative paperwork.

My GP sends me to a cannabis clinic. In order to get an original document for ACMPR, the clinic is charging me almost 200. Its not even a renewal, just a original copy. Anyone else having this problem?
Yeah, my clinic is charging $149 for my original copy. There's a good reason though.

The ACMPR states that you must apply with an original document. It has to both be the original copy of the document, but also not one that has already been used (with an LP for example). So, your doctor either has to fill out the sample document provided by Health Canada or send you an original copy of a technically new prescription (just for the same amounts), so long as all the required information is there (I've been informed that it is by my doctor's office).

Now your family doctor may not charge for a script, but your family doctor is covered by OHIP. "Cannabis Clinics" are not covered by OHIP, so you must pay out of pocket for consultations, or anything else that would take a doctor's time. If you've ever been to college or university, you know how much it costs. Now imagine how much it costs for doctors, and it's easy to see why a doctor won't do anything for free.

Cannabis clinics run by doctors covered under OHIP, or whatever province....in my estimation these doctors charging horrendous amounts are operating outside of the college.....no no no no no.....I don't get charged to have any other prescription written...nope not gonna happen....

I forgot mention earlier about referrals. If you get a referral to a MMJ clinic from your doc (GP/Specialist), they can bill OHIP anywhere from $250-500 for a 15 min "consultation". He says they should not be charging patients any fees, administrative or otherwise....as they're billing OHIP for the referral.

I'm not sure if that's true for every clinic. I was referred to the Cannabinoid Medical Clinic in Toronto, and that was covered under OHIP, but the clinic I go to now isn't covered under OHIP and I don't think it would be even if I was referred by my doctor.

I will contact my clinic and make a few other calls tomorrow, then post again with an update.

If you are signing up via referral, they are billing OHIP rest assured.

Yes, because if you want to be able to bill OHIP and you are a cannabis clinic, you need to follow tougher policies, including GP referral for all customers. This is what the CMC in Tornto does. But I'm almost certain that if a clinic does not require such a referral, OHIP won't approve it, even if you get a doctor's referral.

What I mean is that, as far as I understand it, a clinic has to get set up to be OHIP-billable, and to do so, is forced to follow many procedures that would make simple "oh you need a pot script, here you go", impossible.

Once again, I'll make some calls and update tomorrow, just to be sure.

If a doctor is practicing medicine in Canada they are being paid by a provincial health plan. They are not allowed to charge extra for mmj patients, so they charge ridiculous fees to fill out paperwork. Any doctor visit is covered by provincial health care. Start publicizing the names of these quacks and clinic staff....we can ALL let them know they are scum-sucking bottom-feeders

I received a referral form my Dr. After weeks of trying to get a call back from CMC I gave up and found an office that would answer the phone.

I never paid a cent.

I have a clinic near my neighbourhood that wanted to charge 240 for the initial appointment. Then 80 per followup. That could be anywhere from 3 months up to max 1 year.

I wasn't a fan of that idea.

This is BULLSHIT. This is CANADA, not the United States where doctors decide who lives and who dies based on the size of their wallets. Go home, y/ankee.

I was charged over 1000.00 bucks split between consultant ,lawyer and doctors office.
Though this was back before the mmpr, and they were raping patients wallets.
I'm sure I could have gotten a much larger gram per day amount, on my pinks
but I asked for only what I thought I needed at the time and the doctor gave me exactly what I was needing to get.
I am pretty sure that is how the whole interaction was supposed to go down.
Though the doctors are gate keepers for the old and new programs ..... they probably realize
that the bud tenders at most local dispensing locations have more experience for matching strains and issues
and are much more equipped to suggest what will work best for what.
Its one of the reasons my GP originally refused...she just did not know how to prescribe it.

No one told me the government pays for my services as a regulated health care professional. It's bullshit - the system does not pay for all necessary health care. Don't call me a fucking yank because you're oblivious to how the health care systems work. The dr has to get fucking paid, you don't expect anyone to work for free.
The government, unless blue cross/veterans affairs pays for none of the work I do.

In some situations, like a family dr they should be charging next to nothing for extra paperwork however. A cannabis clinic is in a different boat then a family dr im sure.
