Big Game Hunters, Show Your Stuff

.375 H&H? Great old cartridge.

Once upon a time I almost laid down long green for something like this. The second dose is good medicine.

I think Burt uses one towards the end of this clip. Love this movie.

Pulled the Mossberg 835 12ga mag out. Going squirrel hunting here in a few minutes.

That back bored barrel makes it pattern beautiful.

My favorite shotgun is Remington 870. Mossberg back bored the 835 barrel. Can't shoot slugs out of it but I can kill small game and turkey out to 60 yards with it.

I like a good 45-70. Just not that popular now a days.

The stainless 45-70 lever guns are somewhat popular with many river fishing guides - usually you see a mix of high-cap shotguns & the lever's.
I like the cartridge well enough for really short work but really prefer the .375 as her balance and heft allow me to be very quick and accurate with it.
Once while caribou hunting with this rifle in early winter (with considerable bear reports from others hence the caliber selection) I came upon a small herd of bou on a hillside over 500 yds away. At the time I had no scope on the rifle, only express "flip up" sights calibrated to 300 yds (supposedly) - a bit of Kentucky windage adjustment & I stoned a bull with the first shot right between the blinkers.

I think he was as surprised as I was.

Headed out again this weekend starting early Friday am - looking for a couple of beach deer (minimum) and gonna run the halibut longline for 3 days.
Should put some meat in the freezer - last weekends' haul was around 75 lbs of vacuum sealed king salmon.
I didn't even bother to pick up the tote of meat - just drug it into the shed & filled a small freezer to the brim.

Sad I know.
