Do you wash your buds before drying? Poll

I used to wash my buds following the doc bud method. Under his style washing is essential because this high brix style uses foliar all the way through flower. I did find that the bud dried more evenly when washed and the water did show lots of something nasty being rinsed off.

I've modified my approach. I also apply foliars. I stop spraying foliar about 2 weeks/10 days before harvest. Within that window before harvest I'll select a very low humidity day to give the plants a good hosing. If the buds are huge and jammed together I will forgo the hose and wait until chop and give a washing then.

The modification is simply that I wash the plant, using a hose, while it's still alive.

Doc's method works fine. It could be my imagination or paranoia but i thought i sensed a slight loss of flavor when washed according to docs method. I would still use docs method if I had huge buds or if the weather leading up to chop was very humid.

so, would it be okay to wash down my plant with a hose on the day of harvest? or would you suggest doing it a few days before chop? what has worked better for you?

If you can control your humidity I'd do it 2 or 3 days before chop. Otherwise I suggest keeping you eye on rh and wash during the last 10 days on a day when the humidity is going to stay below 50 for a 24 hr period.

When i grow huge colas I wash after chop, learned the very hard way.

This advice based solely on my observations and experience and not based on actual research.

Aha your observations is the real research in action. @vostok doesnt water curing wash away terpenes? Even if smoother taste (less chlorophyll salt+contaminants) im turned off to the idea of less potent synergisms even if i need stealth my stank- I imagine that a dip does the job to clean but long submerding might? degrade potentcy, I should try all x variables out but my gut thinks to maybe give half em a dip after chopping and wait til trim sugar leaves after a week of hang drying n week of curing so they dry real slow idk though mine are crisping in 3 days

oh, forgot to say, i might think about doing a water cure on some bud that i plan to make edibles out of as i've heard that the water cure helps to remove more chlorophyll as opposed to a traditional cure, and for some odd reason my edibles always come out tasting very green.. so yeah, i'd like to try it for making edibles out of, but never again if i plan on just smoking the buds..

Wash away terps...? No chance,

at least not any more than if you carefully snip and hang the bud

in over 40 plus years of growing weed

I never ever heard of any grower washing their harvest..?

most growers are only too proud to keep it clean

both fiscally and spiritually ..lol

also should you wanna toke, and don't wanna stink the place out

and yes the looks are crap, as I've pointed out

as the deal here is to dilute or wash out that chlorophyll

and leave the trics attached to the veg matter

with the veg matter depleted of nutrients and chems

a jar of water cured weed is a must for the public experienced smoker

so he may toke undetected

I had to cut a plant about a week early from early sign of bud rot. I went ahead and give it the hydrogen bath and dried under a fan for a couple hours. It turned out well, so well that I wouldn't hesitate to wash it again if needed.
That was the first time I had ever washed buds after cutting the plant

Just wanting to get some fresh opinions on washing buds before drying and curing. I've set up a poll and would like to hear opinions, methods and results from those who do and or have and how it turned out.

Also, I'm curious how common it is to sterilize mason jars before curing and what methods are used.

I've had a few cures in the past that were satisfactory, but I tend to over dry due to fear of mold, as I've ruined a batch before.

As I gear up towards harvest I've got my hygrometer dialed in. It reading perfectly at 75% and at 62% with a few salt tests and Bodeva tests.

I'd like to get a great cure this time so I've been reading like crazy the past week.

I wash mine. Not only because of any leftover neem oil or the like, but also because of insect droppings, dead insect carcasses, bird droppings, kicked up dirt, spiderwebs . . .

I have tried lemon juice and baking soda in a three-bowl rinse, but that seems like overkill to me now. I just lightly trim and then dip briskly (but not too brisk) in plain tepid tap water. You'd be amazed at what comes off. I dry on paper towels and then hang bud clusters in a drying chamber.

The flavor of washed vs unwashed buds seems to be the same, so I don't think I'm loosing many trichomes. Also, examination of the water shows none of the residue you'd expect if trichome heads had been ruptured in large numbers.

So is this only for outside bud? Not really seeing the benefit for bud growing inside is there something I'm missing?
